5 tips to overcome tiredness, naturally

We all feel tired from time to time. Often, taking it easy and getting an early night is all we need to solve this. But if you’re feeling tired all the time, you may want to consider:

a) speaking to your doctor to check there’s no underlying health condition causing it, and

b) what lifestyle changes you can make to improve your energy levels.

We know only too well the lure coffee and biscuits have when our energy levels dip, but there is another way. Below we look at some natural approaches to help overcome tiredness.

1. Eat a nutritious breakfast

A balanced breakfast that includes protein is a great way to start your day. We love avocado and poached eggs on toast with a small side of fruit. Be sure to eat regularly throughout the day to keep your energy up - go for slow-releasing carbohydrates and protein over quick-fix sugary snacks.

2. Stay hydrated

Dehydration can really affect energy levels. Keep topping up your water throughout the day and jazz it up with some fruit or herbal infusions. Green tea is also advised, it has a small amount of caffeine and is full of health-boosting properties.

3. Consider herbal support

Certain herbs can help your body cope with stress and tiredness - these include maca, ginseng and ashwagandha. Speak to a professional herbalist for tailored advice.

4. Try an aromatherapy pick-me-up

Scent can have a powerful effect on our mood, including lifting out energy. Try invigorating scents like citrus and peppermint. We recommend keeping a little rollerball of pre-mixed oil to hand.

5. Relax!

If you’re feeling tired all the time and there’s no medical explanation, consider the simplest solution - are you getting enough sleep? Create a wind-down routine for yourself and look to therapies that promote relaxation such as yoga, reflexology and massage.
