Agrimony: When we need it and why
Hello to all; lovely to be here as a Bach flower practitioner. l thought l would post information about two of the Bach flowers every week so that we will eventually have meaningful and helpful info about all 38 flowers.
Agrimony
Agrimony is a wonderful flower that really helps when someone hides their worries or concerns behind a happy facade. It is really all about becoming comfortable with authenticity and the authentic self.
Often being in an Agrimony state a person will be avoidant and/or in denial of the truth or the reality of events. Reinventing history, in order not to have to deal with the reality of the truth maybe because an inner narrative was created to avoid hurt or pain.
As a practitioner, l have often during the initial consultation with a patient, when taking a history, asked whether a childhood was happy and told yes of course. Yet when really going into further detail, l would discover that it was indeed the opposite.
One particular patient after telling me his childhood was idyllic, actually was made to stand outside his house after school come rain or shine often for hours in the dark and cold until his mother came home. He was under eight years old and all alone and his school blazer pockets were sewn up so that he couldn’t put his hands in his pockets! After taking Agrimony both during our consultation and after he really began to open up about all kinds of truths he had denied for years.
This is a perfect example of the need for Agrimony and also the benefits of its effect. It can bring up a lot of feelings that are often long forgotten or avoided and denied causation.
Key points about Agrimony
So key points are:
- avoidance
- masking
- denying
- hiding
- pretence
- incorrect narrative
Those of us who have had to hide our true feelings for so long that we have forgotten them and re-written the history need Agrimony. It can also be very helpful and healing after having been in a narcissistic relationship for a long time where the person has been the victim of long-term gaslighting.
I have often found that if you have a feeling that something is somehow painful or wrong and you feel you need some guidance, Agrimony will bring what is hidden through lack of cognition to you so that you can somehow put words or an emotional state to the disease you are feeling. So many of our feelings come from very early in our childhood where we do not have access to our cognitive status because our executive reasoning doesn’t set in until much later, so we live in a feeling world and are unaware of what feels safe or unsafe or good or bad or happy or sad, and sometimes not even this.
The purpose and joy of taking Bach flowers is that they are all about returning by way of ease and comfort to our authentic selves and being at one with our own soul.
