Signs you need acupuncture this spring
Although winter is commonly the season associated with illness (colds and flus for example) many of us can feel below par in spring too. So why is this?
Acupuncture theory views humans as microcosms of the natural world, and thus believes we are affected by the seasons (particularly during the transitional periods).
Each season is linked to an organ system within the body and spring is typically associated with the liver. This means in the spring, acupuncture sessions that focus on rebalancing the liver system can be very beneficial.
Take a look below for some common signs that you could benefit from acupuncture this season.
Note: Ensure you rule out any underlying medical causes for your symptoms by visiting your GP first.
You're feeling more tense than usual
When the liver isn't functioning optimally, you may feel more tense. For example you may find your jaw is clenched more often, your posture is rigid or your breathing is shallow.
You're getting more headaches
When energy isn't flowing properly, you may experience aches and pains. Tension headaches and menstrual cramps can often feel worse during spring.
Your muscles feel stiff
The liver system helps to nourish the body's connective tissues, so when it is compromised it can make you feel more stiff and tight.
You feel irritable
The emotional symptoms associated with liver imbalances mimic the physical symptoms. This means you may feel more frustrated and irritable.
You're getting angrier more
As well as getting frustrated more easily, you may find yourself getting angrier more often.
How acupuncture can help
The idea behind acupuncture is to free up any stagnant or blocked energy. By focusing on the points associated with the liver system, acupuncture can support better energy flow and improve symptoms.
