If you are worried about your fertility, be sure to book an appointment with your doctor to see if you need any tests. These can help identify any medical causes for the difficulty conceiving. Your doctor should be able to give you advice on any treatment required or lifestyle changes to make.

During this stressful time, it is a cruel irony that stress itself can impact our ability to conceive. There are a number of holistic and complementary therapies available to support relaxation and fertility, including Reiki.

What is Reiki?

Reiki is an energy healing system that sees practitioners channelling universal energy to heal the body. The premise is that our body is made up of energy and when this energy becomes blocked, disease and illness can happen. Reiki seeks to balance this energy to support natural healing and function.

Reiki practitioners attune themselves to universal energy and use their hands to transfer and manipulate this energy in the body.

In this video, Reiki master Jenny Newman tells us more about what Reiki is, what to expect, and the benefits of treatment.

Can Reiki help infertility?

Part of what makes Reiki so special is that it helps to reduce stress. Working in a calm environment as you take time to focus on yourself in a Reiki session, can go a long way to easing the anxiety that can come with trying to conceive.

Reducing stress alone can be a big help with fertility, but Reiki also looks to remove any energy blocks that could be contributing to the problem. Such blocks may include anxiety, stress, resentment and trauma. Lifting these blocks through Reiki can help you feel emotionally and spiritually ready for your next chapter.

Reiki also balances energy, including hormone balance which has a key role in fertility. Overall the aim is to support the reproductive organs to function in a healthy and free way, helping to make conception more possible.

What to expect in a Reiki session

Your Reiki practitioner will likely start by asking you why you are seeking Reiki and what you’d like them to focus on. They will then invite you to sit or lie down in a comfortable position (you will be fully clothed, so be sure to wear something comfy). The Reiki will then begin with your practitioner laying their hands on or just above the body. Unlike massage treatments, Reiki is not about manipulating the physical body, so you shouldn’t experience any discomfort.

For a fertility Reiki session, they may take more time working on your reproductive organs, helping to remove any energy blocks. You’ll usually be in a dimly lit room with relaxing music and even scents around you to help you fully relax as the session progresses.

After your session, you might feel relaxed and sleepy, or you might feel energetic. Your Reiki practitioner will advise on any after-care to ensure you make the most of the healing practice. They will also advise on how many sessions may be needed or how often they should be.

Some people turn to Reiki after other approaches have failed, while others use it as a complementary therapy to work alongside other treatments. Either way, thanks to its gentle nature, Reiki rarely conflicts against other physical treatments. You are still advised to follow your doctor’s guidance and to keep them informed of any alternative approaches you’re considering.

If you’re looking for a non-invasive and holistic approach to support your fertility journey, Reiki may be right for you. Learn more by contacting a Reiki practitioner today.
