Creating a workspace you love

If you work at a desk job, there are probably certain things you know to do to help improve work well-being. For example, not sitting for too long in the same position, drinking enough water and taking regular breaks.

Have you considered your actual desk and workspace though? How could you make it a place that inspires creativity and allows you to be productive and less stressed? We’ve put together a few tips to do just that.

Have a clear-out

Tidy desk = tidy mind! Start by going through your drawers and trays to get rid of any paperwork you no longer need. Keep just the essentials on your desk, the less you have, the less you need.

Update your desktop

Whilst you’re in a tidying mindset, take to your computer and give your files and desktop a little tidy. If you don’t already, organise files into folders. There’s nothing more stressful than frantically hunting for that key document your boss emailed you six months ago.

Think about updating your desktop wallpaper to something calming or motivational. This will give you a little glow every time you turn on your computer.

Surround yourself with positivity

If you have the space, try putting up inspirational images or quotes. These can be surprisingly uplifting, making your workspace that little bit nicer to be in. We love these quote cards from Kikki K.

Bring the outside inside

Being inside for most of the day can be stifling. Try to get out in the fresh air for a break during the day, but also consider bringing nature to you. Plants and greenery are known for improving creativity (no, we’re not sure how it works either, but let’s go with it) so add a plant or two to your workspace. Personally, we’re cactus fans here at Therapy Directory!

Get a change of scenery

Being in the same environment day in and day out is not great for inspiring change or creative thoughts. One way to overcome this is to get out of the office every now and then. Take your team out for a coffee and ideas session or go for lunch with a colleague. Taking that step away from your usual environment can do wonders for your perspective.
