Can 'wellness' go too far?
As many of us in the wellness world know, it’s a growing industry.
From fitness and nutrition to meditation and mindfulness, society is becoming more and more interested in how they can stay ‘well’.
And while this is positive, there can come a point where it is taken too far... becoming an obsession.
For some, the idea of wellness is closely linked to being ‘perfect’ or ‘good’ in every way.
It means eating only ‘clean’ foods (after intagramming it, of course), doing on-trend workouts every day and somehow squeezing in hours of meditation too.
If you’re running yourself ragged trying to be ‘well’ and ‘healthy’, you probably aren’t.
Striking a balance
We’re not saying that we shouldn’t be mindful about nutrition, fitness and mental health - it’s all about balance and being kind to yourself.
Wellness should become part of your lifestyle, something that slots into everyday life and makes things easier for you.
If you find yourself constantly thinking about it or stressing because you’re life doesn’t look like the wellness gurus on social media - take a step back.
Don’t expect perfection - life is anything but perfect. You will have days when you give in to the allure of pizza and chocolate. You will have days when it is the right choice to skip the gym and stay in bed an extra hour.
Beating yourself up about this isn’t healthy.
Eating well, exercising and taking care of yourself should feel good. Aim for progress, keep an open mind and accept that enjoying life is an often forgotten part of wellness.
