Reiki and the present moment

We must think in the present moment. Let's take this opportunity to explore the Reiki Precepts.

What are the five Precepts of Reiki?

1. Do not bear anger

What does this mean? Meditate and make up your own mind through your Reiki adventure and journey, is it an illusion or is it real? What does 'bear' mean?

2. Do not be worried

Is this a distraction, are you fearful or are you calm? Worry is not real it is a distraction whichever way we look at it, it will solve nothing, will it? We will become confused and distracted from our daily life.

3. Be true to your way and your being

Surely this Precept is what and who we are all rolled into one.

4. Be grateful

Not for material things but for our 'well-being' and our life now.

5. Show compassion to yourself and others

This wraps all the Precepts up. If we can't show compassion to ourselves first and foremost, we can't show compassion to anyone else.

A self-healing meditation to try

Think and practice in a kind and understanding way, and let love and kindness travel the Universe in the void of emptiness which, of course, isn't empty. Like our Hara, it is filled with compassion, love, understanding, kindness and peace.

  • Bring your awareness to your body and mind. Feel and accept who you are.
  • Place your hands in Gassho (prayer position) and breathe in deeply (*Joshin Koku Ho).
  • Feel the wide open spaces within you, feel any sensations in your body and be aware of them.
  • Begin to feel the light filling you and comforting you. Feel your body and mind resting and let go of any stress or tension.
  • Notice that you are not judging and that you are feeling gratitude
  • Notice in the air above you the great bright light and the energy of the universe, feel the light filling you and surrounding you.
  • The universe is calling and slowly filling your crown, your eyes, your temples and your face. Feel their energy at the back of your neck and throat. The energy is filling your shoulders, your arms, your hand and your fingertips into infinity.
  • The energy is filling your chest and your heart. Take a deep breath now.
  • Feel the energy filling your Solar Plexus and down, down, slowly to your Hara (just below your navel). This is your centre and your being.
  • Your Hara is overflowing with love, kindness, compassion, understanding, peace and love.
  • Take another deep breath.
  • Feel the energy flowing and filling your legs, your knees, you ankles and the tips of your toes and into infinity.
  • You are free and empty, feeling the vastness of space, interconnected and unified, relaxed and soft.
  • Finish with your hands in Gassho and breathe in the sigh of the earth, grounding you. Breathe out loudly with the sigh of the earth, opening your mouth as it should be open, grounding and entering you.
