Training, qualifications & experience

I was first interested in alternative medicine and holistic therapies when I went along the 'The Healing Weekend' in July 2011. It was there that I received my first Reflexology Treatment and was pleasantly surprised on how nice and relaxing it felt. I have been back to The Healing Weekend every year and have continued receiving several different treatments and massages. Out of all of them it was Reflexology that I was drawn to and gave me the most relaxation. I decided to look into it further and quickly realised it was something I wanted to pursue.

It was difficult choosing which course to complete as there were so many to chose from, however after careful consideration I decided to train the 'The Surrey School of Reflexology', which is run by Nina Pearson who has been practicing Reflexology for over 25 years and teaching for over 20 years. This was an intense course consisting of lots of practical and lots of theory, with Level 3 Reflexology and completing and in depth course on Level 3 Anatomy & Physiology.

        Further information

Reflexology is a natural holistic and non-invasive treatment applying gentle pressure to the reflexes on the feet in order to promote relaxation, improve mood, aid sleep, relieve tension, improve a sense of well-being, increase energy levels along with improving circulation and facilitate the elimination of toxins from the body.

The treatment based on the principle that there are areas and points on the feet that map via the nervous system to corresponding parts of the body. When pressure is applied to these areas and points it stimulates the movement of energy along the nerve channels, and helps to restore homeostasis in the whole body.

Not only does Reflexology help with stress, anxiety and tension it also helps with a variety of common conditions, reducing the symptoms and making you feel more comfortable and revitalized. Please see some of the conditions Reflexology can help.

        What is Involved
Your first Reflexology appointment will involve a consultation to determine your general health, medical history and lifestyle. This information will allow me to confirm that the treatment is suitable for you. During the Reflexology treatment i may detect subtle changes in specific points on the feet, and will work on these points to release any energy blockages to help balance the body. You may experience some sensitivity , which could be due to tension or congestion in the corresponding body area. This is not a concern but an indication that the area needs more attention. A treatment session usually lasts between 45 minutes and an hour. A course of treatments may be recommended to target a specific condition and restore the body's natural balance. Many clients may find it beneficial to continue with regular treatments in order to maintain health and well-being.

        After the treatment
Experiences with reflexology sessions vary from a general sense of relaxation and rest to a conscious awareness internally of the area of the body where the practitioner is working. Many people experience a tingling sensation in the body, as well as feeling warm, a sense of "energy moving" from the practitioner's pressure to the specific body area or organ. There is often a physical perception of energy flowing through every organ, valve, gland, or muscle, as well as a sense of communication between each body system. Other reactions during the session range from physical to emotional and may include:
. Perspiration of hands or feet

. Sensation of being cold or chilled
        . Feeling light-headed
        . Coughing
        . Laughing
        . Crying
        . Sighing deeply
        . Overwhelming desire to sleep
. Disappearance of all pain and discomfort

        Important information

If you have been diagnosed with or suspect you may have a pre-existing medical condition you should consult your GP for advice, diagnosis and treatment and always inform your health professional before starting any alternative or additional therapies, treatments or making any major changes in your diet or exercise programme.
