Victoria Martin MBACP MAAMET
I am a pluralistic integrative counsellor, which means that I believe there are many different ways I can help my clients and how I work with someone will depend on what they want from therapy and how they would prefer to work towards their therapy goals.
I am a BACP Registered Private Counsellor and Psychotherapist, in private practice on the Great Orme in Llandudno since February 2014. Please visit my website for more information, and to book your free 30 minute introduction session to discuss your therapy goals, no strings attached.
A growing number of counsellors and psychotherapists, like me, are integrating EFT into our work with clients and finding that what can be achieved in just a few sessions is astonishing, compared to our experience of what might be achieved with regular talking therapies alone. One of the best things about EFT is how easy it is to teach clients how to use the technique to help themselves. The result is that clients find real and profound relief from their symptoms in just a few sessions, rarely needing long-term therapy, and leave therapy with the confidence that they have a very effective tool to help them deal with and manage their emotions and whatever life throws their way!
Often referred to as "Psychological Acupressure", EFT works by releasing blockages within the body's energy system. These blockages are the source of emotional pain, often resulting in symptoms which can be emotional and/or physical and include lack of confidence and self esteem, feeling stuck, anxious or depressed, or the emergence of compulsive and addictive behaviours. By releasing these blockages, clients find profound relief from symptoms like these. It is also widely accepted that emotional disharmony is a key factor in physical symptoms and dis-ease and for this reason EFT is being extensively used on physical issues, including chronic illness, often with astounding results. As such, EFT is being accepted more and more in medical and psychiatric circles.
Regression and Past-Life Therapy
Past-Life Therapy is essentially guided hypnosis with attendant talk therapy, where you’re put into a deeply relaxed but still conscious state and asked questions about what you see and feel.
In straightforward Regression Therapy, you’ll revisit two or three events in your past that you subconsciously know are at the root of the problem or issue you’ve brought to therapy. By making connections between the past and the present, you will gain knowledge and understanding and, while you’re in a state of hypnosis, you are highly suggestible and therefore receptive to the powerful and positive instructions given to your subconscious to direct its power to work for you instead of against you.
In Past-Life Therapy, while you’re in a state of hypnosis, the images, thoughts and impressions that appear in your awareness are interpreted into a cohesive narrative of a past life. Typically, you’ll be guided through the significant events of at least two past lives. And for each life described, you’ll be taken through the death experience, and then onto a ‘life review’, where the purpose of that lifetime, the lessons learned, and decisions made are examined from the perspective of your higher self. The lessons you learn in Regression and Past-Life Therapy can be applied to your present experience, to help you to better understand and often resolve your problems and issues.
While you're in the hypnotic state, you're highly suggestible and receptive to the positive and explicit personalised instructions included in your session to direct your subconscious to bring about the change you want to achieve. And you'll be supplied with a recording of the session, which you can listen to as many times as you need.
Training, qualifications & experience
I began working in private practice in 2011, offering a general counselling service. Before that, I worked for two years in a counselling role at the top FE college in Lincolnshire, working with young people at risk. Previously, I had gained experience as a volunteer counsellor over a three year period for Mind in Corby and Kettering and at the Northants Youth Advisory Service.
I relocated to Llandudno and launched Looking-Glass Counselling in February 2014, and this is when I began incorporating EFT into my work with clients. I completed my training with Founding Master, Tania Prince, qualifying in April 2014.
I went on to become an AAMET Accredited Advanced EFT Practitioner in 2015. I am now on my way to achieving Practitioner status in Mindfulness Based Inner Repatterining, a powerful form of Energy Psychology therapy combining EFT and Mindfulness.
I have a First Class Bachelor Degree in Philosophy, an Advanced Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and a Higher Education Certificate in Psychology. I am widely read on the subject of counselling theory and different approaches to psychotherapy, and have received further training in CBT, Transactional Analysis and Mindfulness, and, more recently, I've trained in Strategic Intervention, working with Human Needs theory. I am a certified Past-Life Therapist and am currently training in RTT (Rapid Transformational Therapy), to become a registered hypnotherapist.
I have a long-standing interest in esoteric ideas and in exploring alternative approaches to therapy. Over the years, I've found my own "counselling style" and I have amassed an eclectic set of therapeutic tools, and all of this has come to "flavour" the way I work.
