About us

ICOM Acupuncture Clinic is part of the International College of Oriental Medicine (ICOM), the UK’s oldest Acupuncture training college. Our Acupuncture clinic in East Grinstead has been serving the local community for almost fifty years.

Acupuncture is one of the oldest and safest medical treatments in the world. You can come to us for a treatment to restore health or to promote and maintain health. It is used both as a stand-alone therapy or in combination with other forms of medicine to help treat a wide variety of acute and chronic health conditions.

Traditional Acupuncture works by helping to restore balance to the body’s vital energy or ‘Qi’. It involves the insertion of very fine needles into specific points on the body.

We treat a wide range of health conditions. These include pain associated with osteoarthritis of the knee or chronic pain conditions. We also treat more general symptoms, such as nausea, headaches, anxiety and depression.

You can have Acupuncture treatment as a measure to prevent illness, helping to maintain good health or to improve your mental health and sense of well-being.

ICOM Clinic is the teaching clinic of the International college of Oriental Medicine, known to most as ICOM. ICOM was founded by Dr. J.D. van Buren in 1972 in Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire but, as it expanded, a new building was found in East Grinstead, Sussex, in 1976. ICOM Clinic is part of the college, and serves as a teaching clinic for our students as well as being a highly respected professional Acupuncture clinic.

Before they can graduate, ICOM students must gain 400+ hours of clinic experience, all of which is gained in our clinic which offers very low cost, or sometimes even free, Acupuncture appointments to our local community. In this way, ICOM fulfils its long-standing mission to make high quality acupuncture treatment accessible to everybody.

We have several highly experienced professional Acupuncturists working from our clinic, many of whom have been practicing for decades. All of our practitioners trained at ICOM, which is accredited by the British Acupuncture Council, the UK’s leading professional body for the Acupuncture profession. The British Acupuncture Council is regulated and approved by the Professional Standards Authority for Health & Social Care (PSA). The PSA protects the public by overseeing the regulation and registration of healthcare professionals. So when you come to our Acupuncture clinic, you can be assured of the highest standards.

What to expect during your appointment.

An acupuncturist at our clinic will take your medical history and read your pulse. They may examine the site of your symptoms, and they may look at your tongue.

Your individual treatment plan will be based on your current health and lifestyle. Your acupuncturist will decide which combination of points is right for your whole body, as well as your symptoms. Sometimes acupuncture needles are inserted for just a second or two, or you may be asked to rest for a while before the needles are removed.

warning

If you have been diagnosed with or suspect you may have a pre-existing medical condition, please consult your GP for advice before starting any new therapies.
