About me
My name is Ben and I work as a Mental Health Occupational Therapist in the NHS, but due to the growing need for mental health services, I have set up my own private practice. I specialise in combining Occupational Therapy with skills in Acceptance Commitment Therapy and Polyvagal approaches.
In this approach, we look at rewiring your nervous system using polyvagal therapy techniques from the inside-out to unlearn your limiting beliefs, fear and doubts, while engaging in ACT and OT interventions to install self-belief through behavioural change and taking action. This bottom up approach creates a habitual shift in your central nervous system. By reprograming the nervous system with positive feelings and the willingness to take action this will ultimately lead to a positive shift in values and thinking styles.
I have a background as a hypnotherapist and councillor which I practiced as after receiving my BSc in Psychology. After receiving my MSc in Occupational Therapy and falling in love with the client centred approach to therapy it offered, I dropped hypnotherapy and focused on psychotherapy-based approaches which my clients could utilise and integrate into their day to day 'occupations'.
Throughout my NHS career, I have studied CBT, DBT and ACT psychotherapy approaches. I have now fully specialised in ACT and Polyvagal based interventions due to how they mirror the foundations of Occupational Therapy and enhance it by providing evidence based interventions to let go of anxiety and self-doubt which can otherwise prevent us from taking meaningful action.
