Crystals for ADHD

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, or ADHD, is one of the most common conditions diagnosed among children (though it can be diagnosed in adult life, too). It is a type of executive dysfunction, meaning it affects the cognitive processes of the brain, impairing its ability to manage a person’s thoughts, emotions, and behaviours.

People with ADHD may experience a tendency to be impulsive, restless and may find it hard to concentrate. It can impact the quality of a person’s day-to-day life, at home, work, or school.

Thanks to their gentle nature, crystals can be an effective way to support the management of ADHD symptoms, alongside any advice or treatment recommended by your doctor.

Whilst crystal healing is an extremely safe practice, we recommend seeking professional advice before exploring the use of crystals for ADHD.

There are a number of different crystals, all with their own individual healing properties. Some may support the function of the brain, whilst others are better suited to restoring memory and focus.

Here, we’ll take a look at some of the most effective crystals for ADHD and discuss their benefits, to help you choose the best crystals for you or your child.

The best crystals for ADHD

Amazonite

Amazonite is an incredibly soothing crystal, known for calming anxiety and worries, and helping to balance mood swings. Whilst it’s a great tool for developing self-expression, it can also be really useful in helping people to recognise other perspectives and support stronger communication.

For optimum use, amazonite should be placed near the head; try placing it under your or your child’s pillow. You can also carry it in your pocket, or hold it in your hands when you need a moment of calm.

Lapis lazuli

Commonly known as lapis for short, this strikingly deep blue-grey stone can be very powerful for those living with ADHD. It’s known for improving communication with others and connecting with those around us.

Lapis is most effective when you set the intentions for it. Try holding it in your hand whilst meditating to do this. You can also place it around the southeast-facing parts of your home to harness its power.

Citrine

Citrine is a type of quartz that is identifiable as being pale yellow, brown, or orange in colour. This crystal is thought to offer a number of benefits for those with ADHD, such as:

  • helping to recharge the brain
  • boosting energy and creativity
  • helping those who may be feeling low or want to feel better about themselves

Citrine is associated with positivity and optimism and helps bring the chakras back into alignment. For those with ADHD, citrine is a great crystal to reinspire the brain, instead of allowing it to feel fatigued which can be a common symptom of the disorder.

Howlite

Howlite is primarily a pale white or grey stone with dark veining running through it. This is a very calming stone, so it is thought to help those with ADHD to relax. It connects to the crown chakra, helping bring peace and calm to a busy mind. This can be especially useful during stressful periods to improve focus and critical thinking.

Peridot

The beautiful green peridot crystal helps bring clarity. It is ideal for calming angry emotions and finding better ways to control them. People with ADHD can experience heightened or intense emotions which can lead to overwhelm. Peridot is a great crystal for bringing balance to these emotions.

Peridot activates the heart chakra, so it is recommended to place this on or near your chest when meditating. Placing it under sunlight will also help activate its energy.

Opal

Similarly to peridot, opal helps bring balance and amplify thoughts and feelings by removing any blockages. Opal is an ideal crystal for those with ADHD as it can help them work through their emotions to reach their full potential. Opal is a loving and kind stone and it is recommended to carry it daily.

Sodalite

Solalite’s energy is restorative – helping to clear the mind of confused thoughts and bring back mental peace. This blue stone is also thought to be effective at helping people with ADHD process new information.

Many of these crystals can be used in meditation to help calm the mind, balance emotions, and improve communication, but they can also be worn daily in jewellery or carried around in a pouch to keep in a pocket or bag close by.

When choosing crystals, be sure that you or your child chooses stones they connect with. If you’re looking to incorporate crystal healing into your child’s daily routine, we recommend using smooth tumbled stones to ensure pieces don’t break off and there are no sharp edges. It’s also important to regularly cleanse your crystals to release them of the negative energy they absorb.
