Reiki and violence

How do we deal with our emotions when something so horrific as the Manchester abomination happens? After the pain do we feel anger or compassion? Those of us who feel anger may retaliate on anyone who is Muslim when most are gentle people who have no violence and are probably feeling very vulnerable and exposed.

This quote by Thich Nhat Hanh is so wise:

"Man is not the enemy. Our enemy is hatred, anger, ignorance and fear.

The roots of terrorism are not to be found in religious philosophies or unfamiliar cultures but in misunderstanding fear, anger and hatred"

The Reiki precepts which we live by say the same thing. If you meet someone who is full of anger and hatred then violence will occur, if you meet the same person who has no anger or hatred then peace will occur.

Do not bear Anger.

For anger is an illusion.

Anger comes from within, no one makes us angry, we do that all by ourselves and then put the blame on someone else instead of taking responsibility for our anger. It is a hard discipline to change our mindset, turning the anger into compassion and walking away. Being true to who we are, getting to the core of who we are, losing all the attachments that we take on making us a different person is very difficult. Our daily Reiki practice, being mindful and feeling the connection to nature and the universe will help us to become compassionate.

My heart goes out to those who lost a loved one in such a violent way, I'm sure they will be feeling all kinds of emotion and grief, words really can't express how I and many others feel.

We are all interconnected, we don't have to 'send' Reiki to the situation, this externalises the system of Reiki, instead, let go of ego, and become at 'one' with it. Interconnectedness will help us to become more compassionate to ourselves which in turn becomes more compassionate to others.

This is why it's important to recognise our inner great bright light feeling and sharing our connection and love to all people.
