Chronic Pain Coaching (SIRPA trained)

I have completed a Post Graduate course in Chronic Pain run by SIRPA UK. I have worked with the NHS pain team at Addenbrookes, Cambridge and continued to receive private patient referrals from the spinal and pain consultants. This is my specialist interest area to help people with chronic pain and related conditions. The SIRPA approach is evidenced based and G.P.s through to all the healthcare professionals are now getting training in this chronic pain approach.

Please go to "Find a practitioner" at www.sirpa.org and you will find my profile to read more information. With a SIRPA practitioner, I resolved my own 30 year back pain and I hope to help you with your chronic pain and to get you back to the life you desire. Or please watch the TED video talk below which explains the SIRPA approach.

My specialist interest areas for chronic/stress conditions are:

Back and neck pain including nerve disorders e.g. sciatica.

Chronic fatigue /M.E.

Digestive disorders e.g. IBS

I am currently looking for 3 case studies as of April 2024. These sessions will be conducted exactly the same as for standard chronic pain coaching clients. The cases will be discussed anonymously with my SIRPA supervisor for my required ongoing professional development. Hence the sessions are being offered at reduction off the normal rate, and will be at £45 per hour online or £50 in clinic. There is a commitment to a minimum of 5 sessions with a frequency of 1-2 weeks between sessions is required. Please get in touch for a free chat if you feel this could be an option for yourself. Please go to "Find a Practitioner" at www.sirpa.org and you will find my profile to read more information.

Work History

I graduated from Manchester University Physiotherapy School in 1998 and became a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP). Also, as a member of the Health and Care Professional Council (HCPC), I am fully insured and work within competency levels which are the same for NHS and Private work.

I completed rotations in NHS hospitals including orthopaedics, outpatients, and rheumatology.

I specialise in musculoskeletal outpatients treating orthopaedic post-surgery, fractures, sports injuries, and back and neck conditions. I have worked in NHS spinal triage clinics alongside consultants, specialist chronic pain physiotherapists and the Pain Team.

After ten years, I transferred to Private Practice physiotherapy clinics, seeing G.P, consultant, MOD and self-referrals for the above musculoskeletal conditions.

I regularly attend CPD events at the local Cambridge BUPA and Nuffield hospitals, to enhance my knowledge and to network.

I can assess, treat, and facilitate you back to achieving your health goals, improving your function and quality of life.

Some Client Feedback
From loudervoice.co.uk reviews:

In June 2016, I had to undergo quite complex surgery to repair a shoulder injury. The physio I saw, Sarah Massey, saw my shoulder as an interesting challenge. It was evident that she did a lot of homework researching what the surgeon had done. In her own time, Sarah even attended lectures given by my surgeon relating to new techniques and procedures. I first saw Sarah in August, and we agreed it would be a great target for me to be recovered to the point where I was able to swim on holiday in November. It was mission accomplished and I was able to swim over 400 metres in the sea. That was beyond my expectations. (Bob)

Many thanks for your support and encouragement, and of course your expertise. (Jane TS)

I thank you (Sarah) for all the kind physio you gave me on my shoulder, it is making excellent progress. (Anon)

Hello Sarah, just to let you know I saw Mr Vince Tuesday night and he was very pleased with my progress. He says I do not need to see him again or have any more Physio. Thanks for all your help. (Chris)

Coaching Testimonials :

“I had a very positive experience of being coached by Sarah through SIRPA. She carried out our sessions with great sensitivity and professionalism. She helped to bring clarity and insight into some of the mind-body symptoms I was experiencing, and through following her advice (which was thorough and easily applicable) I noticed a significant improvement in my symptoms. I would definitely recommend her. “

RM

“Sarah is a truly holistic NLP coach who provides a reliably safe emotional space. Sarah kept me focused on my goals and uses time effectively, which I really appreciate – she makes it easy to pick up where we left off, recalling details and aligning our activities in a positive and considerate way.  With Sarah I learned helpful strategies to deal with difficult emotions and benefit still after 6 months.  She gives gentle encouragement when going through setbacks. Being coached by Sarah is a really fulfilling experience hence I highly recommend Sarah as an NLP coach to others. Thank you."
