I came across the Bowen Technique two and half years ago when I was looking for a career change. I was tired of working in the corporate world and wanted to do something where I could really make a difference! To date, I have been, and continue to be, amazed at the positive impact the Technique is capable of having.
So what is The Bowen Technique? In a nutshell, it's a very gentle, subtle and relaxing hands-on remedial therapy which aims to boost the body’s natural healing capability. As a holistic therapy, Bowen Therapy seeks to rebalance the whole body as well as working on the area that may be core problem.
The Technique consists of a series of moves across muscle, tendons and other soft tissue. Using fingers or thumbs on specific areas, gentle pressure is applied to effect a movement of the tissue. Short breaks are incorporated to give the body time to respond.
Because the Technique is so gentle, it is suitable for people of all ages from new born to the elderly and the frail. Typically 3-4 sessions are sufficient to achieve the desired outcome; some clients need fewer, some need more.
As the therapy treats the person and not a specific condition, practically any problem can potentially be addressed: some people use the Bowen Technique as a means of stress management and health maintenance and have top up treatments 2-4 time per year.
As a dog lover, I wanted my dogs to also experience the benefits of Bowen. As a result, I am also a fully qualified Canine Bowen Therapist. As is the case for people, Canine Bowen Technique is holistic and does not a specific condition though many problems, both acute and chronic, physical and psychological may potentially benefit from treatment.
