Susan Lofthouse, Reiki Northwest
I am a qualified counsellor, a complementary therapist, and a Reiki Master Practitioner.
I hold an Aromatherapy Diploma and a Reflexology Diploma, and I am attuned to Reiki Third Degree (Reiki Master Teacher Level). In recent years I have decided to offer less Aromatherapy and Reflexology and concentrate on the Counselling and the Reiki, which I offer separately from one another. If you would like more information about counselling please look me up on the sister directory to this one - Counselling Directory - my location is FY5. If it is Reiki you are more interested in, please read on.
I have practised Reiki professionally since 1999 and offer sessions to help people to rest, relax, and generally feel better. Relaxation is known to aid healing and pain relief and can help to improve your general feelings of wellbeing. Surprisingly, this rest and relaxation can often help you to feel more invigorated and more motivated over the days following the treatment.
Reiki does not require the client to remove any clothing, and it can be carried out on a person who is either lying down or in a sitting position. - whichever you prefer.
It may feel more comfortable to receive Reiki lying down on a massage table, and a more complete feeling of relaxation is likely to be experienced this way, but being seated just suits some people better, and I am happy to let you try either way to see which way gives you the best outcome.
Reiki is not something that is rushed, It is a simple exchange of energy from the practitioner to the client, and whilst this is instant and ongoing throughout the session, the precise routine of the exchange enhances the depth of relaxation achieved.
My preference is to offer 1 hour of Reiki plus a ten minute relaxation period, to ensure a person has the opportunity to come round fully before leaving and driving home.
I can also provide half hour Reiki sessions if time is tight for someone. I believe that a few minutes of Reiki is always better than no Reiki at all.
If there is anything else you would like to know about Reiki or about me, please contact me - either by email or by phone. Thank you for taking the time to read this. Warm wishes, Susan

I experienced the power of reiki when I was struggling with an awful migraine on an Expressive Therapy course in 1996. Andrea, another course participant, offered me some reiki for some relief. I had never heard of it, but was grateful for any support available. This amazingly relaxing experience was beyond anything I had ever known before, and when I heard that Andrea and her partner Betty were offering Reiki Level 1 Attunements I signed up, in the hope I could learn to offer reiki to others. Following this training by a Reiki Level 2 Attunement in 1999, I began to incorporate it more into my life and into my practice.
Reiki is often used to help people with cancer gain some calmness and build themselves up, after and during, the phases of chemotherapy. The value of relaxation for people with anxiety and depression, those living with dementia, and others managing very busy lives, bereavement issues, or having to come to terms with psychological trauma, is believed to be enhanced by reiki treatments.
