How I became a Bowen Therapist
I became a Bowen Therapist as a result of a chance meeting. I was on holiday in the Lake district and stopped at a bed and breakfast - simply by chance. The wife ran the bed and breakfast and her husband operated a Bowen Clinic from the house. The following day, over breakfast, he explained how he used to run a home for handicapped children, where numerous therapies were given to the Children. He was so impressed with the results of Bowen Therapy that on retiring, he decided to train and become a Bowen Therapist. I was so impressed with the story i decided that i owed it to myself to look into Bowen Therapy and some 3 years later i to was a qualified Therapist.
As a post note to the tale - In the summer I was a co-host on a Webinar entitled 'Bowen Therapy and Palitive Care'. The same therapist that introduced me to the amazing technique had logged on to my broadcast -As he subsequently commented "serendipity"
My normal adult session fee is £50 and sessions normally last 45 to 60 minutes*- (but Rates for children are 1/2 price.)
The initial session may be longer , as there is a need to complete a general medical questionnaire (there is no additional charge for the consultation). This consultation allows me to gain an appreciation of a client's overall condition, thus allowing the appropriate Bowen Procedural moves to be selected.
i also have Bowen Therapy Gift Cards available for purchase - They make an ideal present for someone you care about. Can be used simply as a relaxation session or to address speciic issues.
Whilst Bowen is appropriate for new injuries, the majority of my clients have long standing conditions that have failed to respond to other therapies/treatments - conditions that have affected their lives for many years.
Bowen is a gentle holistic technique which relieves stress and pain by encouraging the body to heal itself. In modern day terminology it has the effect of re-booting the bodies own healing ability.
Treatment consists of short sequences of rolling moves over muscles and tendons, interspersed with short rest periods. The overall effect is to produce a feeling of relaxation which helps promote the bodies own restorative process. The body appears able to heal more effectiently when it is under reduced stress.
The high state of relaxation produced during a treatment session can really only be appreciated by experiencing a session.
Treatment can be applied through loose fitting clothes, and being so gentle, is appropriate for people of all ages
Australian, Thomas Bowen (1916-1982) developed this soft tissue Technique, which subsequently become known and as the 'Bowen Technique'. It is reported he undertook up to 12000 treatments sessiions per year and fortunately he allowed a handful of people to witness and record the Procedures he developed, His knowldge has now been passsed on to some 12000 therapists around the world.
If you have been diagnosed with or suspect you may have a pre-existing medical condition you should consult your GP for advice, diagnosis and treatment and always inform your health professional before starting any alternative or additional therapies, treatments or making any major changes in your diet or exercise programme.
