Heather Turner BSc RM MAR - Barefoot Holistic Therapies
Birmingham (West Midlands District)
Barefoot holistic therapies is founded by Heather, a registered midwife, reflexologist, baby massage and yoga instructor.
Heather offers a local mobile service for reflexology. Treatments can also be arranged at Heather's home or at The Holistic Practice, Sutton Coldfield. Heather offers general reflexology and specialises in conception and maternity reflexology.
Reflexology is used to restore and balance the body through gentle touch. Heather is extremely passionate about reflexology, having been fascinated by its powerful effects on people and what can be interpreted through the feet.
As a midwife Heather has a deep understanding and knowledge of the conception and maternity journey and has specialised in both of these areas.
Reflexology can provide the relaxation needed to help return the body to its natural balance ready for parenthood. Specialist conception reflexology may help couples with fertility problems by balancing the hormone production necessary for conception to occur and promoting good strong health and vitality in the reproductive organs, which includes helping to regulate periods, promote ovulation, reduce PMS and also help increase sperm quality and quantity.
For those couples who have chosen to have IVF, reflexology can be used to help reduce the stress & emotional unease and help prepare the body physically. There is no evidence that reflexology interferes with medical treatments, in fact if stress is reduced and well being increased, then medical procedures will feel easier.
During your pregnancy, your body will go through significant changes that will affect the emotional, hormonal, psychological and physiological balance of your body. Although it is an exciting time, pregnancy can sometimes present challenges whilst your body adjusts and learns to cope with these changes.
Reflexology can be a great support for relieving stress and tension; evoking deep relaxation and creating a sense of well being. Reflexology is safe during pregnancy and it may help to alleviate symptoms arising from common pregnancy ailments such as:
- Nausea and morning sickness
- Low energy levels
- Heartburn and acid reflux
- Emotional disturbances and mood swings
- Back ache
- Anxiety and stress
- Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
- Pelvic Girdle Pain/ SPD
- Ligament and groin pain
Preparation for labour:
Providing mother and baby are healthy, reflexology can be used to help prepare for labour. Although it is not claimed that reflexology can induce labour, it is believed to be helpful in the final few weeks and days when stress and anxiety levels often rise.
Stress hormones may delay the onset of labour so the more prepared and relaxed you feel, the better. Treatments change slightly as the due date approaches and we focus more on encouraging the birthing process to commence by stimulating the body to produce oxytocin (the hormone that makes the uterus contract), encouraging the cervix to dilate and loosening the pelvis.
