Angela Brown. In Fine Fettle - Occupational Therapy
In Fine Fettle is a company that believes that we should all be able to be at our best in life. We all need to function at as high a level as possible in our day to day existence. Physical and/or mental illness or injury can make this difficult at times.
At those times you may need the help of an Occupational Therapist (OT).
What is occupational therapy?
Occupational therapy provides practical support to empower people to facilitate recovery and overcome barriers preventing them from doing the activities (or occupations) that matter to them. This support increases people's independence and satisfaction in all aspects of life.
"Occupation" as a term refers to practical and purposeful activities that allow people to live independently and have a sense of identity. This could be essential day-to-day tasks such as self-care, work or leisure. (RCOT 2019)
OT's are able to help people of all ages. In Fine Fettle is able to offer assessment and treatment for people from birth to old age, and everywhere in between. We are highly specialised in:
- assessment and treatments of children
- assessment and treatment of adults with learning disabilities
- assessment of properties that need adaptations to meet the needs of a disabled person
- manual handling risk assessments
- assessment and treatment of people who have an acquired brain injury
- seating assessments for people who require supportive seating
- advice to family members and carers about how they can help the person with a disability
- Sensory Integration assessment and intervention
If we receive a referral that we feel we are not able to give our best to we will find a suitably skilled therapist in the area who has the necessary skills. Rest assured we never take on work we are unable to complete to the highest possible level.
In addition, In Fine Fettle is able to offer expert witness assessments and reports in relation to paediatric occupational therapy, with therapists trained as expert witnesses by Bond Solon and Cardiff University.
In addition to Occupational Therapy we also have a Mickel Therapist. Mickel Therapy is a drug free treatment for fatigue conditions such as fibromyalgia, ME and CFS, as well as for people with depression, anxiety or PTSD. It is a way of identifying the cause of the fatigue condition and working towards dealing with symptoms in the healthiest way. This allows patients to become symptom free.

Training, qualifications & experience
Angela qualified as an Occupational Therapist in 1991 and has since then spent 20+ years working in the NHS and Social Services before becoming and independent therapist.
As part of her professional registration, Angela is required to maintain an up-to-date continuing professional development file. This requires that she update her skills in line with any new research which comes to light as well as refreshing existing knowledge.
Angela has worked extensively in the paediatric field which led to a natural transition to learning disabilities in her last few year in the NHS. She has worked in a wide range of environments, including home, schools (both mainstream and special schools), day centres, work environments.
Angela also has an excellent knowledge of 24 hour postural management and seating, for people who are unable to support their own posture. This requires regular updates and a good awareness of the equipment that is currently available on the market.
Angela has spent many years working both directly and indirectly with the adaptation process for home and school etc for people with disabilities.
In 2017 Angela completed her Post Graduate Certificate in Sensory Integration and is currently working towards further qualifications in this area.
In 2018 Angela completed her training as an Expert Witness with Bond Solon and Cardiff University and is able to provide court ready reports following assessment. Angela offers her services both to the claimant and the defendant as her role is to remain neutral for the court and provide accurate, unbiased opinion regarding the needs of the disabled person.
In 2013 Angela trained to become a Mickel Therapist and now sees clients in local clinics as well as via Skype and phone.

Other available therapies
Occupational Therapy fees are variable depending on the work that is required. Contacting In Fine Fettle to enquire about your specific needs will ensure that you receive the correct quote for what you need. We aim to ensure that the cost for our clients is kept to a minimum.
Mickel Therapy is offered initially via a FREE 20-30 minute conversation to allow clients to decide if this therapy is for them. This is usually done via phone and gives the client the opportunity to find out what will happen in the sessions. If a client chooses to move forward with therapy the fee is £75 per session, although reduced costs are available when pre-paying for blocks of 5 or 10 sessions.
