What is Reiki?

Simply put Reiki is a spiritual system that has been in existence since the dawn of time. The founder of Reiki as we know it today, Mikao Usui, developed the practice and passed his teachings on just as the Reiki practitioner and teachers do with their students today.

Reiki benefits everyone regardless of gender, orientation, creed, culture or religion. To experience Reiki can allow the person to let go of ego, attachments to the material and facades of modern life to embrace our inner selves, our true nature.

When we ‘give’ a Reiki treatment we are actually sharing the experience, intuitively connecting with the other person. Sharing the treatment brings us inwards to our true nature, there is no ‘giver’ and no ‘receiver’, the energy is channelled through the practitioner and the client, completely at ‘one’ in the energetic space, total connection.

Reiki is a continual journey, a journey personal to each individual and can begin with a treatment or the teachings of a Reiki master/teacher. Over time Reiki has gone in many directions, the Western teachings began this change, making the system more ego and power influenced. New ‘forms’ of Reiki appeared taking the system further away from the early teachings and the appearance of extra tools introduced supposedly making the Reiki system more powerful.

In my humble opinion, after many years studying the system of Reiki, as long as the practitioner or Reiki master/teacher sets the right intent with honesty, whatever the ‘form’, Reiki will work. Everyone has a different prospective on what Reiki is, it really doesn’t matter, being true to your nature does matter.

“You don't have to say anything. You don't have to teach anything. You just have to be who you are: A bright flame shining in the darkness of despair, a shining example of a person able to cross bridges by opening your heart and mind.” Opening your heart and mind: Tsoknyi Rinpoche.

Lovely quote and very thought provoking, it’s saying ‘be the great bright light’ all esoteric teachings and traditions say the same thing.
