The magic of soft tissue therapy

Soft tissue therapy (STT) is the new word on the block, but essentially these techniques have been practiced for centuries. Hopefully the phrase will help you to find the right person for your needs.

What is soft tissue therapy?

A soft tissue therapist will help you to assess, treat and advise on your pain or niggle by looking at, palpating (touch), and assessing movement of your soft tissue (basically includes all but bones).

The therapist will then decide techniques to use which include but are not exclusive to, deep tissue massage, trigger point therapy, soft tissue release, myofascial release, positional release, active stretching, neuromuscular techniques, and acupuncture. As you can see the therapist will have a bank of techniques to choose from but a simple deep tissue massage may suffice, all dependent on you the client.

This is why soft tissue therapists have moved away from the title of sports massage therapist, as they are so much more. STT is an effective way to ease restrictions in your soft tissue to enable better movement and glide of structures covering your skeleton, to allow better exercise, posture and performance.

Athletes don't train, compete or rest without treating their soft tissue, so why shouldn't you? STT is used to treat all issues related to muscle, tendon, fascia, circulation, stress and stiffness. A therapist's clinical knowledge allows a thorough assessment and review of symptoms to allow a full recovery with the right treatment plan.

Get to the bottom of those headaches, ease symptoms of long-standing back pain, recovery from injury, ease stress, improve posture... and so much more.

For more information do contact a therapist to discuss if a soft tissue therapy treatment is right for you, although I think I already know the answer.

Stay healthy, keep moving.
