How to bring happiness into your everyday

We’re firm believers in the notion that happiness is a journey, not a destination. It isn’t some far-fetched concept in the distance that we’ll only find once we earn more money/lose weight/find a partner etc.

We all have the choice to experience happiness and we can do this every day. Below we look at some easy ways you can incorporate ‘happiness’ into your day, every day.

Start the day with movement

Your body and mind will thank you for it! This could either be a full-on cardio session at the gym, a couple of simple yoga poses or a brisk walk up and down your street. Whatever you do, exercise gets those feel-good hormones pumping and lowers stress levels making it the best way to start your day.

Create an inspiring workspace

Studies show that the simple addition of a plant on your desk could boost creativity. Try adding a touch of nature to your work area and play around with inspiring desktop backgrounds (we love these!). Keeping a clutter-free desk will also help you stay focused, so take a few minutes at the end of the work day for a quick tidy.

Notice nature

Spending time in nature is an easy way to boost happiness. Try to schedule it into your day – for example you could go for a walk outside on your lunchbreak. Look around and notice nature, whether that’s trees and plants or simply the clouds in the sky.

Connect with loved ones

Talking to friends, family and partners reminds us that we are not alone and that we are loved. Take time every day to send a message of love. This could be a simple text to your partner during the day, a phone call to a friend or meeting your sibling for an afternoon coffee.

Plan something fun

Having events in the future to look forward to has been found to boost happiness as we are anticipating something fun. If you have nothing in the diary, make some plans! The plans needn’t be extravagant, plan a lunch with friends or a cinema trip. Think about your next holiday or where you can go for a walk at the weekend. Make a note of your plans in your calendar and get excited about them!
