Tips to avoid colds and flu

As the weather gets colder, many of us succumb to illness as cold and flu season rears its ugly head. While obviously in some cases, falling ill is unavoidable – there are things you can do to help protect yourself and give you the best chance of staying well. Take a look at the following tips:

Tips to avoid colds and flu

Use hand sanitizer

This is a simple way to avoid illness. Carry some hand sanitizing gel with you and use it regularly, especially when working in an office environment or after using public transport.

Avoid the tube

If you work in London, chances are you’ll use the tube to get around. When you can, try to walk instead. Not only will this keep you away from crowded, potentially germ-ridden trains, getting exercise and fresh air will do wonders for your health.

Eat nutritionally dense foods

Aim to eat lots of antioxidant-rich foods like blueberries and chia seeds. These will help boost your immune system so you can fight off infection.

Avoid alcohol and dairy

Alcohol can weaken the immune system and dairy can aggravate sinus problems. Try to cut these out if you start to feel unwell to give your body a chance to fight off the cold/flu.

Take a day off

If you start to feel run down, chances are you’ll be more susceptible to infection. To give your body a boost, look to take a day off work before you become really ill. Take the day to rest up, eat good foods and drink lots of cleansing water.

Take supplements

Taking a multivitamin could help give your body an extra helping hand when you feel run down. You may also want to try drinking juices to get as many nutrients down you as possible.
