As healthy as our lifestyles may be outside of work, it can be easy to fall into unhealthy traps at work – whether it’s staying seated for hours on end or giving in to that afternoon chocolate fix.
The following tips should help both your body and mind stay active, energised and happy:
Take regular breaks
For those of us who enjoy our work it can be surprisingly easy to stay stationary for long periods of time without taking a break. This can stress out your body and lead to muscle pain and headaches. Even if you are too busy to take an hour lunch, ensure you get a regular 10-minute break from the computer so you can get up and get some fresh air.
Embrace random acts of kindness
Within the office random acts of kindness can be far and few between. Boost morale by offering to make the tea, complimenting your colleague or bringing in some homemade, healthy snacks.
Keep spreading the feel-good factor by getting involved in fundraising activities like bake sales and fun-runs. It may sound like a lot of effort, but it will help to bring your co-workers together and make your office a nicer place all round.
Treat yourself to a lunch-break treatment
A 30-minute massage treatment, acupuncture session, yoga class or reiki treatment can all give your energy levels a boost while reducing stress and anxiety.
Make yourself at home
Surround yourself with home comforts such as plants and photographs, they will brighten up your work-space and make you smile when you’re having an afternoon lull.
Work hard, play harder
If all else fails, ensure you have something to look forward to after work – dinner with friends, an evening class or even a night in front of your favourite boxset will boost your spirits throughout the day.
