Americans turn to Alternative Therapies

According to a recent survey conducted by Consumer Reports, 38 million Americans are now visiting Alternative and Complementary Therapy providers each year.

Despite most Americans believing that prescription medication is the best option for the treatment of common illnesses, a report of more than 45,000 people has found that three-fourths of those surveyed are now opting to use alternative therapies such as acupuncture.

The report says that each year around 38 million adults make more than 300 million visits to massage therapists, chiropractors, acupuncturists and various other alternative and complementary practitioners.

Key findings from the study included deep-tissue massage and chiropractic treatment being ranked among the most effective alternative treatments for neck pain, back pain and osteoarthritis, and of the 27% of respondents who used meditation, 42% said they found it helped their anxiety.
