After years of being unable to give up drugs, Lisa sought out a counsellor who she hoped would be able to help overcome her addiction. Her counsellor suggested to her that she try acupuncture, and although she was initially surprised by the suggestion she decided to try out the alternative therapy.
Lisa visited the Boston Public Health Commission’s Acupuncture Clinic for her treatment, where sessions are free for those who have been referred by a counsellor.
The technique itself works by putting five quarter inch size needles into specific points in both ears to stimulate certain pressure points. The needles stay in for around 45 minutes, during which patients can nap, relax or look at artwork.
