Italian Physio Stefano Tirelli specialises in acupuncture, shiatsu and Chinese medicine and is now part of a coaching support team who will endeavour to keep the England team in pristine condition for the World Cup.
Tirelli has an impressive resume, having recently worked with John Terry, holding degrees in both physical education and sports sciences, lecturing in complementary sport techniques at a university in Milan and having recently authored a book on shiatsu and Chinese medicine for sport, he is more than qualified for the position.
In his book ‘Shiatsu and Chinese Medicine in the World of Sport’, he explains how methods combining shiatsu, acupuncture and homotoxicology are good for ridding the body of toxins.
John Terry is said to have been very impressed with Tirelli’s methods and is thought to have had some influence over getting him on board.
The world cup team using these methods provides valuable exposure for alternative and complementary therapies, highlighting their merits and spreading awareness to football fans who had previously been unaware of these holistic healthcare systems.
