Help build your self-confidence naturally

Help build your self-confidence naturallyStart the New Year with a spring in your step by improving your self-confidence (the natural way).

If low self-confidence is a problem you are keen to tackle in 2014, there are a few tricks you can use to help yourself. Take a look at the following tips to help you knock self-doubt on its head...

1. Use B Vitamins to help steady your nerves

Found in whole grain cereals, nuts, leafy greens and brown rice, B Vitamins are essential for maintaining a healthy nervous system. This means adrenal function is supported and neurotransmitters fire properly. Overall this will help you to steady your nerves and feel more able to tackle pressurised situations as they arise. If you suffer from poor digestion, you may want to consider a supplement.

2. Support your adrenal glands with oil

Having healthy adrenal glands is important in the fight against nerves. These glands are responsible for firing adrenaline into the bloodstream when you feel anxious and by keeping them healthy they are more likely not to be overworked and give you those horrible butterflies. Keep your adrenal glands in tip-top condition with starflower oil (from the borage plant) which has been shown to be particularly helpful for those with social anxiety.

3. Try aromatherapy

Another way to help combat nerves naturally is to use essential oils like lavender and chamomile. Sprinkle a few drops onto a handkerchief and inhale when you're feeling anxious, or treat yourself to an essential oil infused bath. Lavender can also help if your nerves are preventing you from sleeping, and feeling well rested is another key to confidence.

4. Use a flower remedy

Dr Bach created a large collection of homeopathic flower preparations to help different types of emotional disorders, but perhaps his most famous concoction is the 'Rescue Remedy'. This concoction is ideal for short-term use to help counteract low-level anxiety. If you have an interview, driving test or big presentation coming up and are worried nerves will get in the way, try a few drops of Rescue Remedy to take the edge off.

5. Have a positive attitude

Finally, one of the most important things you can do for your self-confidence is to think positively. Rather than dwelling on what could go wrong, try to be open to new experiences. Studies show that those who think positively are generally happier and even consider themselves luckier than those with a more negative outlook.
