About us

Vitality Pilates Staf

Vitality Pilates Durham Ltd offer a combination of the very best of modern and classical forms of Pilates, to ensure the most effective system of exercise for our clients. Our highly skilled teachers will guide you through the Pilates method including a combination of mindfulness and meditation; this will align the mind, body and soul. We offer Pilates, Barre & Mindfulness classes, workshops and retreats, as well as more specialist classes - Pre & Post Natal, Back care and Injury Rehabilitation classes.

Our classes are friendly, safe, fun and progressive.  We are used to working with a wide range of clients and promise to work with you to ensure that you achieve your goals regardless of age, fitness and health.  All of our clients are personally supervised throughout and are monitored at every stage.

Training, qualifications & experience

Vitality Pilates Durham is owned by Jill and Marie.

JillJill has a strong background in dance and fitness, and has been teaching group exercise classes since 1995. She found Pilates and Yoga in the 1990's after looking for something to help a hip injury, and increase flexibility.  Jill brings fun into her sessions and strongly believes that exercise has to be safe, effective and enjoyable to make it sustainable. ‘'I love working with our clients and am constantly overwhelmed at how well the body responds to Pilates.  Your body wants to be in alignment!  It is lovely seeing the great results our clients are achieving, with people literally changing shape before our eyes.  We are seeing great improvements in strength, tone and flexibility, with lots of people reporting feeling less pain.  The benefits can be felt from only a few sessions’

As well as a Level 3 Comprehensive Pilates qualification, Jill is also qualified in Advanced Pilates Matwork, Pilates Small Equipment, Level 3 GP Referrals, Swedish Massage and Level 3 Nutrition; and is a certified Meditation Instructor. She has recently attained Level 3 in Pre & Post Natal Exercise.

MarieMarie's background is in mentoring, life-coaching and emotional well-being. She is also a qualified gym instructor and Personal Trainer, and has worked with clients on both a 1-2-1 and group basis. After helping clients recover from various sports and health related injuries, Marie's quest to further assist clients led her to discover Pilates, and to appreciate the benefits of it.

I'm extremely enthusiastic about the mind/body connection that Pilates brings, and the confidence it builds in our clients. As Joseph Pilates himself said, 'Where the mind goes the body will follow', and I strongly believe that mindful exercise improves emotional and physical well-being.

In addition to Level 3 Comprehensive Pilates, Marie is also qualified in Advanced Pilates Matwork, Pilates Small Equipment, Level 3 Personal Trainer, Swedish Massage and Level 3 Nutrition; and is a certified Meditation Instructor.

Jill and Marie are both Level 3 qualified in Pilates and have recently undergone advanced training in Spinal Conditions and are Pelvic Floor Specialists. Both are fully qualified Barre instructors with the world-renowned and celebrity trainer Tracy Mallet in her 'Bootybarre' method.

Both Jill and Marie are constantly working to improve and develop, and are continually attending courses and workshops to keep their knowledge up-to-date and to enable them to provide the best advice and support for their clients.

We are delighted to introduce our new instructor;

Sophie started taking classes with Vitality Pilates in January 2014 and we were delighted to be able to offer her the opportunity to take the L3 Pilates qualification, which she has recently completed.

Pilates had rebuilt me from the inside out! I was amazed at how quickly my body responded to Pilates - week on week my strength increased and my body could do things it couldn't do before. Pilates is for EVERYBODY - no matter where you are starting from, Pilates will make you stronger, more flexible and more comfortable in your own body. I am so excited to be continuing on my Pilates journey with Vitality Pilates and ato be able to help spread the Pilates joy!

Our classes can be paid for via a monthly pass:

£75 - For UNLIMITED classes

All passes valid within one month of purchase, and are valid for both studio and community classes.

Alternatively, you can pay as you go for £8.50 per class.

We also offer package deals, all over a 3 month period and can be paid for either in full or monthly via standing order.

Pilates

The benefits of Pilates are countless. Pilates is for EVERYONE! It is a non-aerobic and non-impact form of exercise and once practiced you will realise what a vital necessity this form of exercise is for general well-being, inner strength, confidence, excellent posture and tone of body.

Making the mind and body work as one through a very focused approached leaves you feeling very relaxed and stress free!

Within weeks of starting you will notice the difference, your body will feel stronger and more flexible, and your tummy will feel smaller. We have beginner and intermediate levels, with also a 'Power Pilates' class.

Pilates with Equipment

This is an all-level class (absolute beginners can only join after completing an 8-week beginner course), where we will utilise some of the Pilates equipment such as the big balls, foam rollers or pilates circles.

Vitality BootyBarre Class

This hugely popular class fuses fitness techniques from Pilates, Dance and yoga. You will streamline, firm, tighten and tone your entire body without adding bulk. Creating balance, posture, body awareness, flexibility and cardiovascular endurance. The result is a body that looks and moves 10 years younger! (No dance experience necessary). Designed by celebrity trainer - it's Madonna's favourite workout! A must try class!!

Vitality Flex & Flow

As above, but with the addition of resistance bands to really hit the muscles that other classes can't hit!

Back Care/Injury Rehab Class

This class is recommended for those being referred to Pilates from a physiotherapist or doctor; or anyone with a pre-existing condition that maybe wants to try a more gentle type of class to get their body moving.

Pre & Post Natal

Specially designed class for during pregnancy and for the months after the birth. Pilates during pregnancy is proven to aid birth and keep the muscles strong so that recovery time is reduced after birth. Babies welcome to come along in their travel chairs.

Stretch & Chill

A gentle stretching class with added meditation. Take time out from busy schedules and join us to zone out and give yourself some headspace.

Young Yoga*

A specially designed course for children aged 8 - 16, introducing them to the act of correct movement and breathing techniques. This class is payable separately and is £35 for 6 week course.

SOSA*

'Dance yourself happy' with a latin/ballroom solo salsa class, designed for women of all ages and abilities. Payable separately - £6 per class.

* These classes are run by separate instructors and are not included in the 'Unlimited' pass.
