Welcome to Thames River Physiotherapy, a team of experienced chartered physiotherapists who are dedicated to provide high standard of care and quality treatment.

At Thames river physiotherapy we provide specialist physiotherapy treatment, acupuncture, sports massage, vestibular rehabilitation, Pilates and ergonomic consultation.

Ravi Shanker
MCSP, SRP, MSc PT, MSOM, MAACP.
Ravi Shanker has been a qualified physiotherapist for nearly a decade, amassing extensive experience in physiotherapy in NHS, Army Primary Health Care and private sector.

Ravi has worked as a highly specialist musculoskeletal physiotherapist at BMI Clementine Churchill Hospital in London where he has worked closely with London’s most renowned orthopaedic consultants. Ravi has also worked as a pitch side physiotherapist for London’s elite football clubs.

Ravi is committed to continuing his professional development to provide most up to date and evidence based treatment techniques. He has successfully completed his Masters Degree in physiotherapy in 2007 from Sheffield Hallam University and then completed his Diploma in orthopaedic medicine from Middlesex University in 2009.

Ravi has strong hands on approach and provides wide range of patient specific treatment regime including manual therapy, muscle energy technique, myofacial release, and acupuncture. Ravi has got special interest in treating back pain and shoulder injuries.

Manual therapy and manipulations are widely used clinical approach in physiotherapy utilizing skilled, specific hands on technique used by physiotherapists to diagnose and treat soft tissues and joint structures for the purpose of modulating pain, increasing range of movement, reducing soft tissue inflammation, accelerating tissue repair, facilitating stability and improving function( modified definition, APTA 2011).

Pilates
Pilates is a physical fitness system developed in the early 20th Century by Joseph Pilates which helps in improving the strength, flexibility and posture. It has been proven very effective in treating low back pain, pelvic pain, neck pain and postural dysfunction

Myofascial release
Myofascial release is a soft tissue manipulation technique that is utilized to relieve pain and stiffness by relieving the tension in the fascia.

Physiotherapy plays an important role in post surgical rehabilitation of patients following orthopaedic surgeries like arthroscopies, joint replacements, spinal surgeries and tendon repairs to accelerate recovery in order to achieve the maximum potential.

We provide sport massage using specialised techniques like effleurage, kneading and transverse fractioning to break down the adhesions and relieve tension. We also provide pre and post sports massage to elite athletes to prevent injuries and improve performance.

Vestibular rehabilitation
Vestibular rehabilitation is exercise based treatment program to overcome inner ear deficits like positional dizziness and vestibular hypofunction associated with Meniers disease, Labrynthitis and Vestibular neuritis.
