About me

Yoga Therapy is yoga practices for people with physical, emotional or psychological health problems. General yoga classes can improve general health and resolve mild complaints, but may be ineffective – or even harmful – for serious conditions. In such cases yoga therapy can help by designing yoga to individual needs. It helps to promote all-round positive health, as well as assisting particular medical conditions. Yoga therapy can treat a wide variety of physical and psychological issues. With its emphasis on breathing, slow dynamic movement and individual attention, it is different from many other forms of yoga. The yoga tradition that I teach (Viniyoga) uses the techniques and ideas of yoga and applies them to the individual, respecting all aspects of their personal circumstances. This might include factors such as their age, health, physical abilities, occupation lifestyle, culture, religion and what they might be looking for from yoga. By careful consideration of the needs, issues and lifestyle of each person, the yoga I teach is safe and suitable for everyone. As well as being a member of the British Wheel of Yoga I am also a member of the AYS who are the organisation representing the Viniyoga community. The AYS are at the forefront of yoga therapy as they follow the teachings of Desikachar, and his father Krishnamachariya who have led the way with teaching and treating individuals to health using the tools of yoga, including posture (with appropriate modifications), intelligent use of breathing practices, chanting, meditation, and many more.
