Regarding The Art Of Reflexology
The art of Reflexology is an ancient therapy that has been practiced for over 5000 years and introduced to the Western world over a 100 years ago. It is based on the theory that different points on the feet correspond with different areas of the body. As Reflexologists we believe and see that working these points aids relaxation by stimulating the Relaxation Response; which is beneficial as it counteracts the physiological effects of stress and the fight or flight response and brings the body back to pre-stress levels as a physical state of deep relaxation. Chronic and long term stress has long been recognised as having a detrimental effect on health. Reflexology helps relax, improves mood, aids sleep, helps relieve tension and improves a sense of well being.
The Association of Reflexologists is the largest professional governing body for Reflexologists in the UK. It was established in 1984 to promote professional standards in reflexology and now provides support for thousands of members throughout the UK and overseas. Guidelines given to the AOR by CAP on advertising prevent us listing any medical conditions.
If you have been diagnosed with or suspect you may have a pre-existing medical condition you should consult your GP for advice, diagnosis and treatment and always inform your health professional before starting any alternative or additional therapies, treatments or making any major changes in your diet or exercise programme.
