Sue Gwynne - Zen Reiki
Zen Reiki & Zen Equine Reiki
I am a qualified & experienced Reiki Practitioner (Teacher / Master level) & member of the uk Reiki Federation working in the Cambridgeshire area. I work from my home therapy room in Chatteris, and also as a mobile therapist. I also practice Animal Reiki - including Equine.
Reiki is an ancient technique that promotes healing, which could be described as 'assisted meditation' as it promotes such deep levels of relaxation which in turn enables the body to return to a more balanced state and initiate healing on an emotional and physical level. The practice is an Eastern traditional energy transfer technique that was rediscovered in Japan in the early 1900's and is now used worldwide in many settings.
Reiki addresses physical, emotional and spiritual imbalances and brings about a feeling of harmony, peace and well-being. It is a lovely gentle therapy that can enhance relaxation reduce stress and bring clarity of mind. It is a very good complementary addition to conventional medicines and can help to reduce the unpleasant side effects of some medications.
The therapy involves laying or sitting if this is more comfortable. You remain fully clothed (other than shoes). 'Mood' music are often played to create a relaxed ambiance and enhance the session, though this is not necessary - if a client prefers silence. Clients should feel a deep sense of relaxation, a meditative state is often achieved and many also feel heat, cool or tingling where energy levels are enhanced.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact me for further information & to see if I am the 'right' Reiki practitioner for you (As with most things in life you may be drawn to the practitioner that suits your own requirements and style). My methods are based on Japanese origins. Western methods are also popular among practitioners.

Training, qualifications & experience
I worked in the public sector for ten years and was eventually drawn to my interests, food as medicine & natural holistic therapies. I also have an interest in meditation and was drawn as a result to Reiki. Reiki being an energy therapy that focuses the same energies as meditation Tai chi and many other eastern origin practices.
With a science based background I have always required more than just to be 'told' something works - even something as popular as reiki - I need there to be a foundation of fact behind it. This has lead me on a fasciationg journey of research and practice.
Reiki can be an extremely effective therapy. Please see below for a short simple explanation for just some of the benefits of reiki.
A small explanation with a few physiological facts.
Reiki is a very relaxing treatment that very often guides the recipient into a deeply relaxed or meditative state (not always as easy to manage on your own). The cumulative effect of reiki treatments will help reduce stress and anxiety and as a result the body is more 'balanced' physiologically. As ongoing 'chronic' stress is managed and reduced, often, so are many underlying issues....
Continued stress is not good for us as it raises levels of 'stress hormones' Cortisol is well known and although when required in 'flight or fight' situations (any sudden requirement for 'that extra') it will do us no harm, it has its purpose it can be beneficial in the short term.. BUT...
An ongoing excess of cortisol, can cause many unpleasant side effects and might include, disturbed sleep, fatigue, raised blood sugar levels, food cravings, weight gain, symptoms of anxiety, low mood. With continued raised levels, eventually this could lead to further more impactive health problems. - both physicaly and mentaly.
One of the catecholamines (chemicals made by the adrenal glands) is epinephrine (adrenaline). It has many positive uses, again, in those sudden requirements for 'a boost' when we need to raise our heart rate, blood pressure, increase blood flow to muscles & opens up the airways (one of the main 'flight of fight' chemicals). It also suppresses the immune system. Epinephrine is used to treat cardiac arrest, allergies and asthma. It has saved many lives - though again, in everyday situations we do not want or need raised levels of adrenaline for extended times, it can have a damaging effect when left unchecked.
** Some of the most common reasons for increased catecholamine’s (nor epinephrine and epinephrine/adrenaline in particular) are anxiety and stress** Our 'Happy and calm' chemicals are reduced by this increase in stress hormones. Dopamine and seratonin are reduced when cortisol is raised (dopaime - the 'happy hormone' and seratonin - 'the calm creator') are both reduced. It does help explain why depression and sleep problems often start with continued stress. We all need balance!
Both physical and emotional issues are triggered by stress
**One of the main ways reiki can help is to reduce stress and anxiety** Reiki helps to manage stress and recreate a renewed more balanced outlook - which in turn further enables you to manage your own stress. We all have stressfull situations in life. The idea is to reach a place where you manage stress - it doesn't manage you! Breaking the initial cycle is a huge step in the right direction.
I love my work as a Reiki practitioner at teacher / Master Level, and now run Reiki workshops as well as treatments. I have taken a course in Equine Reiki. I am a member of the UK Reiki Federation. I practice from the 'Zen Den' Threapy room and also work as a mobile therapist in and around the area. I am also qualified to run guided meditation workshops. I continue my professional development with meditation, reading, courses, Reiki shares, working stays in Buddhist meditation centres where I have had the opportunity to further my interest and experience in meditation. I also worked in Bulgaria, giving me a unique and fabulous experience that has helped broaden my experience and love of reiki.
I also research much in relation to the ways reiki works from a 'scientific' viewpoint'. (And am becoming more and more aware that science and 'spirituality' are inextricibly linked).... Eastern and many other ancient therapies are not only growing in popularity but it is clear that in the past our inner instinct was extremely accurate and knowledgeable in relation to healing, and in particular to energy therapies.
I am currently writing a book. I have written numerous articles for the UK reiki Federation Bi annual Magazine 'Resonance'. I will also arrange short talks for groups on reiki and meditation (please call to enquire).
May the 'force' be with you :)
