Reiki is a Japanese form of healing, stress reduction and relaxation, using energy, or Chi. The healing energy which I channel, will go to where you need it, physically, emotionally or spiritually.
In brief, its roots are based on ancient healing methods from Tendai Buddhism and Shintoism (it is non religious and every one can benefit). Developed by Mikao Usui, a remarkable man, in Japan in the early 20th Century, he taught Reiki to many students as a form of self-healing. In the early 1920s he was approached by three Imperial Officers from the Navy wanting to learn Reiki to use easily and effectively on the battlefield, training as ‘energy paramedics’ if you like. It was at this point that Mikao Usui began teaching Reiki for use on others.
My Reiki journey… In the early 1990s I was very interested in training as a Herbalist. I had studied agriculture, worked in crop research and then as a flower seed breeder, and was fascinated by plants and their medicinal qualities. I’d been living in Australia and when my visa finally ran out I returned to the UK where I was thwarted at every turn. I finally ended up, rather bizarrely, as the CEO of a charity and company in east London, always relying on my instincts. After eleven years, I stepped down into semi retirement.
After a month or two, I got itchy feet and thought again of studying to be a Herbalist. Whilst furiously beavering away on the Internet, Reiki kept popping up again and again. Following my instincts, I resigned myself to the fact I should be looking at this instead and started my research. I signed up to a training programme where I undertook the First Degree, a few months later the Second Degree and finally the Masters programme. On a personal level it all makes sense to me. We are all made of energy, we all produce heat, we are amazing human beings. The channelling of energy came naturally to me and I know I’ve always done it. The teaching unlocked an ability I’ve had all my life and it’s humbling to be able to share this and use this well.
When I work with you using Reiki, I engage with your energy and through my hands I allow that energy to flow through your body to where it needs to go. It’s a clothes on treatment, don’t ever let anyone tell you otherwise! I find often my clients will fall asleep until I’ve finished and they wake up very relaxed. The feedback I’ve had is always positive, though varies tremendously depending on each person.
Reiki is remarkably effective on animals too, especially horses, while cats and dogs love it. A good friend of mine who is vet is a convert to Reiki for animals.
Training, qualifications & experience
I trained with Reiki Evolution www.reiki-evolution.co.uk
I passed my Reiki First Degree (Shoden) in June 2013 with Reiki Master Sue Jones in Saffron Walden.
My Second Degree (Okuden) I passed in October 2014 with Reiki Master Hannah Shine in Hatfield Heath.
I became a Reiki Master (Shinpiden) in December 2014, again with Hannah Shine as my tutor.
I have regular clients and some less regular clients. After giving Reiki to two close friends with cancer and hearing from them the relief they felt whilst receiving Reiki, and afterwards too, I now volunteer as a Reiki therapist with the Complimentary Therapy Team at my local Hospice. I love that they offer this for free to patients, their families and carers too.
I charge £30 for a Reiki consultation and session. Distant Reiki Healing is free though it helps if I have already met with you first. Please do ask though if you are far away.
I love all plants, gardens and gardening, birds, wildlife and I am a keen photographer. I live by the sea and my partner & I sail a great deal.
