Bowen is a holistic therapy that takes into account the whole body. Many long-term chronic problems can be linked to postural imbalance, often as a result of work and lifestyle habits. Also many auto-immune conditions are believed to have stress as the route cause and this is an area I am extremely interested in. Over time, stress can lead to particular areas of the body experiencing pain or discomfort due to how the body is held and how stress hormones affect organs and muscles. Bowen therapy begins by addressing any imbalance or misalignment in the body then focuses on more specific problems helping to shut down the 'fight or flight' response aiding the reduction of stress hormone.
I trained as a Staff Nurse in 1988 returning to university in 1999 to train as a Social Worker. In this role I consider the psychological associations of trauma and unconscious thoughts, many of which are held in the body affecting our movements and can cause restrictions. I discovered Bowen Therapy in 2015 and was immediately drawn to the holistic values and principles of how it helps the body heal itself.
