Benefits of massage for people with Dementia.
People with dementia can benefit enormously from therapeutic touch & massage. It can ease anxiety which can be brought about by the symptoms of the disease itself or the medication they are on.
Massage can promote clients mental & emotional state. Massage helps release the happy hormones; dopamine & oxyocin, which induce feelings of love, attachments & heightened well being. In fact, more oxytocin is released when touching the front of the body as opposed to the back.
Some clients are depressed & having someone who comes in especially to see them can be very important to them, especially if they do live in a nursing home or hospital.
People living with dementia respond beautifully to touch & often want to reciprocate the act of love & kindness.
