About us

Hello my names Melissa Folly. I am the Owner and Chiropractor at Shires Chiropractic Clinic. I set up the clinic in September 2013 after having worked within other practices for last 3 years. We offer Chiropractic treatment to the whole family from babies to the elderly.  Our treatment is suitable for all types of nerve, joint or muscle problems from sports injuries, to posture problems or age related issues. Our aim is to provide the very best in Chiropractic treatment tailored to each patient’s individual needs.

Although Chiropractors are better known for the treatment of the spine, especially lower back pain, we can also help with other areas of the body. In particular we emphasise the importance the position of your lower extremities (feet, ankles, knees and hips) and the effects this has on the rest of the body and in particular the spinal alignment.

Shires Chiropractic Clinic is based at Martins Grove Business Park just off the A40 between Ross on Wye and Monmouth, in an area of outstanding natural beauty. We have plenty of free parking and offer ground floor access.

Training, qualifications & experience

From a young age I knew I wanted to work in health care and it was during the later years of my school life that I discovered chiropractic. The more that I found out about the profession the more I knew that it was what I wanted to do. I therefore decided to spend 4 years of hard work and dedication at the Welsh Institute of Chiropractic at the University of Glamorgan in South Wales. Here I gained a thorough understanding of the workings of the human body and graduated with an Undergraduate Masters of Chiropractic.

I am a member of the British Chiropractic Association and registered with the General Chiropractic Council. The first year in practice is required to be spent undertaking the provisional registration training scheme (Prts). Much of this year is spent observing and appreciating other health care providers and how their treatment can work alongside chiropractic to provide the very best of treatment and management to our patients. I’m very proud to have been presented with the Graham Heale award for the 2010/2011 PRTs candidate of the year. This is a very special award as it was set up in honour of the late Graham Heale, a very well respected individual both within and outside of Chiropractic communitie.

I am always keen to expand my knowledge of chiropractic ensuring to bring the best care to my patients. I have completed the Certified Chiropractic Extremity Practitioner (CCEP) course, to expand on my keen interest in biomechanics of the extremities and their role in back and neck pain.

Treatment can be beneficial for the whole family and every one of all ages and walks of life.  If you are unsure if chiropractic can help you or if you are anxious about anything please don’t hesitate to give me a call. I am more than happy to discuss any queries that you may have before you decide to come in for treatment. We also offer a free 15 minute consultation, during which we can discuss in more detail your complaint and asses you to give a better idea of how chiropractic can help your individual needs.

Treatment of the Extremities - Certified Chiropractic Extremity Practitioner (CCEP)

Chiropractors tend to be better recognised for the treatment of the spine, however Chiropractic techniques can offer a range of treatment for multiple areas of the body. Since graduating from university I have developed a keen interest in the treatment and management of the extremities and the impact that issues in these areas can have on the spine and the rest of the body. I have undertaken a post graduate qualification to further my knowledge and this year I have become a qualified CCEP practitioner
In particular I emphasise the importance the position of your lower extremities (feet, ankles, knees and hips) and the effects this has on the rest of the body especially the spinal alignment.
At Shires Chiropractic Clinic we have on site gait scanning equipment that enables us to asses your foot pattern as your walk to determine any asymmetry or errors that might be occurring. if a problem is identified and if necessary we also have the facilities to order prescription orthotics to enhance stability and complement treatment.
