About me

I am a fully qualified reflexologist offering treatments in Shaftesbury in a calm, relaxing and tranquil environment. I am passionate about helping clients to find their way to a balanced body and mind. It is my belief that stress and poor dietary choices account for much dis-ease. I have an advanced diploma in advanced Holistic Nutrition and a foundation diploma in Psychotherapy and Counselling from the SNHS which inform my after-care guidance to reflexology clients.

What is Reflexology
Reflexology is a holistic therapy which aims to help achieve optimum balance of the mind, body and spirit. It is a non-invasive, natural, gentle process - soothing, calming, balancing and boosting the body's healing process and immune system. Reflexology is based on the theory that different points of the feet correspond with specific areas of the body. Special techniques are used to stimulate points of the feet (or hands) to detect imbalances and encourage the body to rebalance itself.

How Reflexology Helps
Reflexology helps the body to help itself as it:

* Encourages relaxation;
* Improves mood;
* Aids sleep;
* Relieves tension and stress;
* Improves a sense of well-being.
Reflexology can help support people in palliative care.

Reflexology offers a time for peace and relaxation to carers and the bereaved who can lose interest in or neglect their own well-being. So often they focus on making life as comfortable as possible for the patient, try to remain strong for others, or are devastated following the loss of a loved one, overlooking their own needs. This has led me to becoming a volunteer therapist for Weldmar Hospicecare Trust.

It is estimated that 75% of all disease is stress related.

Stress, both mental and physical, is a major factor in causing the body to get out of balance. The tension it causes has effects throughout the systems of the body. When the system ceases to function effectively and efficiently, the imbalance begins to drain the body's vital energy and immunity making it more likely for disease to occur.

Reflexology alleviates the effects of stress by inducing deep relaxation which is a major contribution to good health.

Mini Spa Reflexology Treatments
A mini spa reflexology session offers the addition of a foot soak and scrub, with natural, organic products, prior to your reflexology treatment. It is the perfect way to start the natural therapy process - very beneficial to the feet and helping to calm the mind.

Your feet gently soak in warm water with a wonderful combination of Himalayan rock crystals, containing 84 essential minerals, together with Dead Sea salts and essences of mint and tea-tree.   Salt and tea-tree have antiseptic properties as well as being deeply cleansing; the healing properties of salts are well known and are perfect for natural therapies. They help revitalise and soften the skin, removing dead skin cells and the soothing, calming aromas create a perfect start to the relaxation process. This is followed by a natural foot scrub based on Himalayan mineral crystals and Dead Sea salts with softening shea butter to exfoliate and help to soften dry and hard skin,

Mini spa reflexology sessions last a little longer than standard sessions at 1 hour 15 mins or 1 hour 35 mins if part of an initial consultation.

Baby Reflex
I also offer tender-touch Baby Reflex. Techniques specially adapted from reflexology for adults have been created to suit the needs of babies (from 4 weeks) and toddlers taking into account their size and well-being. These simple techniques are taught to parents to give to their own children in workshops either on a one-to-one basis or in small groups.

Baby Reflex Workshop information
Baby and Toddler Reflex are taught to parents in 3 weekly, 1 hour, themed workshops: feeding and digestion; sleeping and comforting; and well-being.  The themes allow for easily remembered relevant bite-sized chunks to be taught.   Results of studies show an improvement in sleep and an increased bonding between parents and children.

Workshops are fun and enjoyable and, for the toddlers, incorporate well-known nursery rhymes and can be given on a one-to-one basis or in small groups either in your own home or at a convenient local venue.

Volunteer Therapist for Weldmar Hospice Care
Reflexology offers a time for peace and relaxation to carers and the bereaved who can lose interest in or neglect their own well-being. So often they focus on making life as comfortable as possible for the patient, try to remain strong for others, or are devastated following the loss of a loved one and overlook their own needs. This has led me to becoming a volunteer therapist with Weldmar Hospicecare Trust offering reflexology to carers and the bereaved.

Training, qualifications & experience

For many years I worked in administration managing a busy primary school office.

Training as a reflexologist has been life-changing for me and I so enjoy providing my clients with a special time for themselves away from day-to-day stresses.

  • VTCT diploma in Reflexology from Bournemouth and Poole College.
  • Full member of Association of Reflexologists
  • Trained to teach parents/guardians Baby and Toddler Reflex
  • Advanced SNHS diploma in Holistic Nutrition
  • Foundation SNHS diploma in Psychotherapy and Counselling
  • Foot Reading with Jane Sheehan
  • Reiki 1

I have found that many clients benefit from having a private, confidential environment to talk about their personal issues and I believe that many health issues are due to stress and diet. To enable me to develop my knowledge and skills in these areas, I am continually studying different subjects and therapies which enable me to offer further guidance to my clients encouraging them towards finding their own path to a positive way forward and a healthy and balanced mind and body.

I am currently studying Hypnotherapy with SNHS.
