Kirsty Harrington LCH
My interest in homeopathy started at a young age as I grew up being treated with homeopathy. I decided to go on and study to become a qualified homeopath.
I graduated from the College of Homeopathy in 2003.
I am a lecturer in Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology at the North West College of Homeopathy.
Homeopathy is a system of medicine that treats the whole person, not just specific parts.
It was developed over 200 years ago by a German doctor, Samuel Hahnemann. He pioneered a different approach to healing using the basic principle of the way of similar : like cures like. This means that a substance that produces certain symptoms in a well person can be used to cure an unwell person who has similar symptoms. It is now widely accepted as one of the complementary medicine systems.
Homeopathy is holistic. It takes into account all aspects of the person, physical, emotional and mental.
Homeopathic remedies are made mainly from plant and mineral sources. They suit all ages from babies through to elderly individuals. Remedies are gentle and subtle.
What to Expect during a Homeopathic Consultation
At the first consultation detailed information about all the health concerns are taken down carefully. In order to work out the right remedy for each individual I need to know quite a lot about the whole person. Having gained an understanding of how the health complaints are experienced, I then need to know some background information which will include past medical history, the way in which the environment has an impact and any strong characteristics that make someone an individual. Homeopathic treatment is holistic and specific to the needs of each person. At this stage you may decide to continue with a course of treatment and arrange additional appointments.
The first consultation may take up to an hour and a half. I like to arrange a follow up appointment for 4 - 6 weeks after the remedy has been prescribed in order to assess how much it has helped. There may be a number of other follow up appointments arranged, but this is up to each individual case
