Kirsti France BTAA BAUK
The way we sit, sleep, work, and exercise all have an effect on our bodies, often resulting in excessive muscle tension which can manifest itself as stiffness, discomfort and pain. The Bowen Technique is a hands-on, soft tissue body therapy known for its effectiveness in helping relieve everyday stresses and releasing muscular tension.
Each Bowen therapy session varies according to the particular problems of the client. The therapist uses fingers or thumbs to move over muscle, ligament, tendon and fascia on various parts of the body. By focusing on the lower and mid back and legs, the upper back, shoulders and the neck, a sense of wellbeing can be achieved, assisting relaxation, aiding sleep – and helping to revitalise the whole person.
The experience of treatment is gentle, subtle and relaxing. Bowen therapy is suitable for most people of all ages, including infants, athletes and mothers to be. Treatment can be performed through light clothing with the client lying down or seated.
The Bowen Technique is considered a complementary therapy and can work alongside traditional medical treatment. However it is recommended that you do not have other hands on body therapy within a week before or after your Bowen session. Although Bowen is a tool for treating ailments and injuries, many healthy people enjoy treatments to help maintain their sense of well-being.
