Juan Carlos Leon Benitez LSSM(dip) ISRM, CNHC, BAC approved
I am a former International Athlete and Experienced Sports and Remedial Massage Therapist working in the Nottingham area.
I work alongside Physiotherapist Alison Smith BSc, MCSP at The Physio Plus Clinic in Wollaton NG8. Alternatively I can visit your home, business or sports club in the Nottinghamshire area.
I am orignally from Havana, Cuba and am a former member of the Cuban Gymnastics Team. On retirement from gymnastics I gained a degree in Sports Science from the University of Havana and trained at the Cuban State Circus School. I went on to enjoy an exciting career as a circus acrobat. My work took me all over the world and eventually in 1995 to the UK where I met my wife Jackie. Together we worked as "Tuyo", an acrobatic adagio act.
I later retrained as a Sports and Remedial Massage Therapist at the internationally renowned London School of Sports Massage. After qualification I gained experience working in both clinics and private practice in London. I have worked with clients ranging from international athletes and professional performers to amateur sports people, older adults, expectant mothers and children.
In September 2009 I relocated to Nottingham and have since continued in private practice. I am one of a select group of experienced practitioners approved by the British Athletics Commission to treat elite track and field athletes.
I bring the insight of a lifetime of experience of working with my own body and a sound knowledge of anatomy and physiology to the treatment table. I tailor each massage to the particular client providing a personal experience based on their individual needs, from Elite Athletes preparing for performance to people rehabilitating serious injuries and those seeking a relaxing experience and enhanced well being.
I am a full member of both the Institute of Sports and Remedial Massage and the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council and uphold the strict standards demanded by both organizations. I am a qualified first aider and hold an enhanced CRB certificate.
