I am passionate about Upledger Craniosacral therapy. I first discovered the benefits of Upledger Craniosacral Therapy whilst having treatment on myself for Menieres Disease, I was amazed by the dramatic effect it had upon me. After attending an introductory weekend in Upledger Craniosacral Therapy I left wanting to learn more and felt inspired to train as a Craniosacral Therapist.
People find CranioSacral Therapy effective for a wide range of problems associated with discomfort, pain and dysfunction. Interestingly, this approach also appears to complement and stimulate the body's natural healing processes, so CST is increasingly used as a preventive health measure to keep us on the straight and not so narrow!
It causes no discomfort nor does it have any risks or adverse side effects. It is for this reason that it is particularly suitable for the treatment of babies, children, during pregnancy and the elderly.
I am fully qualified Upledger Craniosacral Therapist and a member of the Upledger Craniosacral Society. I have taken further training in Conception, Birthing and Paediatric Craniosacral Therapy. I have worked as a therapist on intensive integrated Craniosacral Therapy treatment programmes including treatment in water. I also help as a teaching assistant for Upledger Craniosacral Therapy training courses. I teach the Introductory Course for Upledger CranioSacral Therapy which is a two day course for anyone interested in finding out more.
As well as my training in Craniosacral Therapy I am a fully qualified Holistic Massage Therapist, I have trained in Acupressure and Visceral Manipulation incorporating these into a treatment where appropriate.
I own my own natural health practice, Falmouth Natural Health Practice where we offer a variety of therapies and I also work one day a week at Hilsea Natural Health Practice in St Austell.
I trained and qualified through The Upledger Institute UK and I am a member of theUpledger Cranio-Sacral Society
Upledger CranioSacral Therapy
Upledger Craniosacral Therapy (UCST) has its origins in Osteopathy. It is a hands on therapy, where touch is very gentle, non invasive and usually subtle. It acts through the central nervous system.
UCST is used to detect and correct imbalances in the Craniosacral system. This system is comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord, extending from the skull down to the sacrum (tail bone). The Craniosacral system directly impacts on the central nervous system( your brain and spinal cord).
How Craniosacral Therapy is Performed
Treatment is a very gentle and non invasive manipulative technique. Seldom will pressure in excess of 5grms (the weight of a 20p piece) be used.
The examination is performed by testing movement of the Craniosacral rhythm in various parts of the body, such as the skull, pelvis, sacrum and abdomen, to assess where restrictions may occur.
You will probably notice a sense of deep relaxation which will generally last throughout the session. In many cases treatment may resolve emotional issues.
During a treatment you may recall memories surrounding past shock, trauma or injury, this is known as Somato Emotional Release it explores the links between the trauma held in the tissue and the emotion attached to that event, which can play a major role in inhibiting good physical health.
