Janet is a qualified Alexander Technique teacher having completed a 3 year full-time accredited training course. She is registered with the Society of Teachers of The Alexander Technique and with The Complementary & Natural Healthcare Council.
"I first came to Alexander Technique in 2005 with back pain and poor posture. I was aware of a connection between these two things but unable to create any lasting change. My own lessons helped me to understand how undue stress and tension I held in my body affected my coordination and my wellbeing. Learning a way to change unhelpful habits helped me restore natural balanced support in my body for everyday movement.
Inspired by my new awareness of how simple it was to learn to use my body in a light and easy way - and to look after my back - I trained as an Alexander Technique teacher, qualifying in 2010."
I teach private lessons from a dedicated room in my home in Hove. I also teach at The Brighton Alexander Technique College which trains students to become Alexander teachers themselves.
Alexander Technique is a unique 'mind and body' learning - a practical way to manage your posture and wellbeing. It is taught one-to-one so that individual tensing habits and patterns are addressed. You are able to take what you learn into your daily activities enabling you to stand, sit and move with a greater sense of freedom and ease, and offering you a skill for a new coordination and poise in all acts of living.
How we hold and carry ourselves with unnecessary tension can add to aches or pains. Alexander Technique helps you to recognise and change hidden postural habits which can contribute to back ache, tension in the neck or shoulders, or stiffness in the joints.
