I have been practising Chinese medicine and acupuncture since 1981. I trained both in the UK and in China and bring with me over 30 years of continual study and practice.
I am primarily an acupuncturist, practising mainly in the TCM style, but also incorporating a variety of approaches according to the patient and the condition I am treating. In addition, I use dietary therapy, therapeutic exercise (qigong), and selectively use herbal food supplements as part of the treatment programme
Over 30 years of being an acupuncturist has given me thousands of hours of experience working with patients from all walks of life with myriad different problems, physical, emotional and spiritual. Based on my experience accumulated over these years, I apply my knowledge and skill to understand your presenting problem in the context of your unique personal history. I then translate this into a programme of treatment to suit your needs.
I am a member of the British Acupuncture Council (MBAcC), the body which regulates the acupuncture profession and ensures the highest standards in both practice and ethics.
Training, qualifications & experience
I trained in acupuncture in the UK for three years at the International College of Oriental Medicine, graduating with a BAc in 1981.
In 1984 I travelled to China to study for four months at the Nanjing University of TCM and at the Jiangsu Provincial Hospital, also in Nanjing. I revisited Nanjing for further clinical studies in 1987, and again in 1992, when I spent 5 weeks intensively studying Qigong and Taiji, the principles of which I apply in my clinical practice?
I was a founder director of the London School of Acupuncture in 1985 and continued in this role until 1997, during which time I taught acupuncture at the School. The School merged with the University of Westminster in 1997 to create the UK's first BSc degree course in Acupuncture. I have taught many well known practitioners and have been an external examiner for two acupuncture colleges in the UK. I continued to teach at the University until 1997 when I decided to concentrate my work in Dorset.
For ten years I worked closely with fertility specialist Michael Dooley at The Poundbury Clinic, using acupuncture to support patients with fertility issues and having fertility treatment, for example IVF. This continues to be a significant part of my practice.
To keep abreast of new developments, I engage in an ongoing process of education and research: as a subscriber to medical journals and online news services; by attendance at seminars and conferences; and by participation in online 'webinars'. I am also an avid collector of textbooks on different aspects of Chinese medicine.
I charge £65.00 for the first consultation (one hour); £40.00 for subsequent treatments.
