To find health should be the object of the physician. Anyone can find disease. (Dr A.T. Still)
I am a biodynamic craniosacral therapist in Bristol and qualified from the Karuna Institute (UK ). I am registered with the Craniosacral Therapy Association of the UK (CSTA).
My particular areas of interest include working with stress and trauma and healing prenatal and birth experiences in adults and babies.
Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy is a gentle but powerful hands-on therapy that aims to facilitate the expression of health and relieve pain or tension that are held in the body as a result of physical or emotional stress and trauma. It works by actively supporting our body’s own capacity for healing and repair and acknowledges the interconnectedness of mind, body and spirit by working with the whole person.
The work is very gentle and the consequent changes in the body are deep but subtle, therefore craniosacral therapy may be suitable for people of any age. The experience of a treatment is unique to each person and I believe the best way to understand whether this kind of work is suitable for you is to experience it. As observed in my experience of client and practitioner, craniosacral therapy may be helpful if:
- you are looking for relief from acute or chronic physical complaints (e.g.migraines, headaches, back or neck pain, insomnia, digestive problems, injuries, pain after a fall/accident/surgery)
- you are experiencing emotional discomfort (e.g. depression, anxiety, panic attacks) and want a space to be deeply heard and find a new state of balance in your body/mind
- you lead a stressful life and want some support to relax and access deeper resources in your body
- you are interested in a longer term exploration and release of past trauma that is held in your body and may be affecting your present life (e.g. PTSD, prenatal and birth experiences)
- you want to be proactive in maintaining a healthy body and mind.
Craniosacral therapy can also be very helpful during pregnancy and after birth to support both mums and babies during one of the most significant experiences of their lives.
In a session you lie down fully clothed on a massage table and I make light contact with my hands on various parts of your body (typically feet, head and sacrum) listening to what is happening in your body and supporting it to release areas of pain and tension. Most people find receiving craniosacral sessions to be very pleasant and deeply relaxing. You may also feel you have more energy and feel more grounded at the end of a session. Or you may feel you need to rest after a treatment to allow the body to complete the process started in the session. As each person is different, the number of sessions you will need depends on what you want to work with and how long this ‘issue’ has been with you.
Training, qualifications & experience
I qualified from the Karuna Institute, studying the biodynamic approach to craniosacral therapy with Franklyn Sills. I am registered with the Craniosacral Therapy Association of the UK (CSTA) and fully insured. I see a supervisor and I continue deepening my practice by regularly attending CPD courses and having my own therapy sessions.
Before the craniosacral therapy training, I completed the Core Process Psychotherapy Foundation course and more recently the Diploma in Relational Mindfulness at the Karuna Institute. In the last few years, I have also carried out further work around prenatal and birth material, learning how to support the healing of early experiences in both babies and adults.
