About me

I am co-founder and co-director of the Source Clinic and an experienced acupuncturist with much clinical, educational and research expertise. I am a member of the Acupuncture Society. Working as an acupuncturist means I am constantly in awe of the body's natural capacity to heal itself. Watching the treatment stimulate this healing into action is something I value highly. I find it inspiring to see someone who has been out of balance become more and more realigned, relieved of long term symptoms, conceiving the baby they have been longing for, or simply living life with happiness.
We need to work harder to stay in touch with our natural rhythms nowadays.

Everything is working against them: we don’t realise the effect of stress on our lives as we rush to work, spend long periods on computers, constantly communicate on mobile phones. The pace of life just increases, so the body tells us when this gets too much, which is why so many people are stressed and suffering from depression, exhaustion, infertility, back pain... the list goes on. It’s the body’s own intelligence that needs to be accessed for healing to take place. Five element acupuncture encourages a state of equilibrium, following the laws of nature, so that the body can do what it needs to do to function healthily.

Every human system is different and it is fascinating to intuitively work with each person on a one-to-one level. It’s gratifying to see people feeling better or overcoming obstacles, and these are just the concrete effects; I also find the personal interaction deeply rewarding at every stage of treatment.

Training, qualifications & experience

Bruce is an experienced acupuncturist with extensive clinical, educational and research expertise, treating in London since 2005 and a member of the Acupuncture Society. Bruce obtained a Licentiate in Acupuncture at the College of Traditional Acupuncture, Leamington Spa and a BA (Hons) Traditional Acupuncture at Oxford Brookes University in 2005.

From 2007 Bruce was instrumental in setting up the London Institute of Five Element Acupuncture (LIFEA), playing a pivotal role in taking the Institute through the exhaustive accreditation process with the British Acupuncture Accreditation Board (BAAB). As well as teaching at the Institute, Bruce held the posts of Head of Academic Studies and Head of Research from 2007 – 2010, and, in July 2010, was proud to see the Institute’s first graduates complete their studies.

He continues to have an unfathomable interest in the intricacies of acupuncture research and was a member of the steering group as well as supervisor of trial acupuncturists for a major research trial.

This trial – the CACTUS study (Classical Acupuncture for Treating Unexplained Symptoms) was funded by the King’s Fund and conducted jointly by Plymouth Medical School and LIFEA. It investigated the effects of five element acupuncture on patients who frequently attended their GP and who presented with medically unexplained symptoms. The study, which involved 80 patients, ran over 2 years in 4 GP practices in London. The results are currently being written up in preparation for publishing.
