I began my career studying and working as a professional artist: an Illustrator and Designer in the Music Industry, as a Mural and Community Artist and an Educator. I continue to paint and exhibit. largley figurative work. I have a keen eye that helps inform the postural aspect of my therapy.
In 1991 completed a Master in Womens’ Studies that researched into the nature of the psyche and the relationship between gender, health and culture and at this time was exploring Massage, Co-councelling, Reikian Therapy, Gestalt Therapy and Rebirthing
I completed a professional training in Craniosacral Therapy with the College of Craniosacral Therapy, London in 1993, then studied at an advanced level at the Karuna Institute, Devon, completing 5 courses in all. Later I also studied at The centre for Alternative and Environmental Research, Cornwall and The CranioSacral Therapy Educational Trust, London.
I am a member of the Craniosacral Therapy Association UK. Website is www.craniosacral.co.uk/
I am also qualified in ITEC 'Anatomy Physiology and Massage'.
My understanding of body energetic, posture, meditation, relaxation and breathing techniques is complemented by a study of Eastern disciplines: Yoga, Tai Chi, Qi Gong and Meditation: with various masters for over 40 years, and most recently with Dr Bingkun Hu. (I also Teach QiGong). In addition I study dance and movement. In the 1980's Contemporary dance formed part of my Bachelor Degree. Subsequently I trained for 20 years in Egyptian dance, alongside Salsa (10 years), and over the past 8 years in Argentine Tango with internationally renouned teachers.
In a typical Craniosacral session, you will usually lie (or sometimes sit) fully-clothed on a treatment couch. The therapist will make contact by placing their hands lightly on your body and tuning in.
The first thing you will probably notice is a sense of deep relaxation, which will generally last throughout the session. This release of tension often extends into everyday life.
Sometimes the benefits are not immediately noticeable but become obvious on returning to a familiar environment. The work is often deeply moving and exhilarating.
It is helpful for a whole range of conditions and suitable for all ages including babies, children, during pregnancy and elderly people.
I have worked extensively with babies and autistic children.
