Hello, my name is Ana Melo and I am a therapist based in London. I practice Ayurveda and practice and teach Reiki. My practice revolves around one main principle: help people connect with their true essence so that they can live up to their potential. I do this by removing interior blockages that hold us back from where we are supposed to be going or divert us in a path that is not ours. Consequently we feel out of sync with life, ourselves and the rhythm of happiness.
Reiki is holistic system for balancing, healing and harmonizing all aspects of the person - body, mind, emotions and spirit - and it can also be used to encourage personal and spiritual awareness and growth. It is a gentle yet powerful complementary therapy that may be used alongside orthodox health care. As such, it expands treatment options.
How did I get to it? In my early twenties life threw me hard into an inner journey. It was obvious: I had no option but to shift my focus inward after so many years of looking for things outside myself and so many disappointments and frustrations. I started yoga, meditation, mindfulness, and experimented with many other healing therapies. In the midst of all these new discoveries I stumbled upon Reiki. It was life changing and taught me that everything we need is already within us. Amongst many things it helped me (and still helps): look at life in a harmonious way, no matter how uncomfortable the circumstances around me; see peace and beauty where I used to only see fear and struggle; take life for what it actually is and understand that it can not be always comfortable and smooth and that this is actually a good thing, as we have the power (and the need) to transform that mud into a beautiful lotus.
Today I am a dedicated practitioner at Evolve Wellness Centre, at the Chelsea Natural Health Clinic and at 58 South Molton Street. Through my vast experience I have organically developed my own style of Reiki, which incorporates elements of medical, emotional, spiritual and psychological clairvoyance. This means that when I treat my client I am able to see into the physical, mental and emotional body of the person. For example: I can detect any physical inflammation or injury that the client is not aware of; get information about the client's current emotional state (their blockages, insecurities, vulnerabilities), see how he/she copes with life in general (their mechanisms and how they balance the cognitive and the sensitive, if one is more developed than the other and how to counteract that) and advise how they could move forward and overcome fear and obstacles. It is completely safe and I would never be able to see anything that the client - consciously or unconsciously - is not ready to let go of. I also offer therapeutical guidance in my sessions (specially in the first one). Through Reiki I get the ability to see at which stage a person is and I am able to give advice and guide him/ her into the next steps of development. This might include the suggestion of other therapies rather than Reiki that I might find to be more or as appropriate for the case in question. I am aware that different people respond differently to different therapies and my aim as a therapist is to give the most complete and bespoke treatment to everyone that I work with, regardless if it is through Reiki or not
The Reiki session is also enhanced by elements of aromatherapy, a short facial massage at the beginning of the treatment and a short foot massage at the end (if I feel the client needs extra grounding). The use of oil for the facial massage is recommended, but not essential, and is used at the client's discretion.
You can read here what some people say about me:
I found Ana online and although I had experienced a little reiki I was still a little unsure what to expect. She is brilliant, great at holding the space and truly a gifted healer. Post each session I have come away feeling lighter and as though my energy has shifted. She has a gentle yet firm approach in her follow up and am grateful I found her. Emma, London
I found Ana at a moment of difficulty in my life where I was seeking something to help me discover more of who I am. Ana took me on and very quickly determined where the issues were and how she could help. I attend Reiki with Ana up to twice a week and it was a great part in my rehabilitation to life, and a new way of life. As Ana says on her website, she gives a lot more than reiki, and it is this holistic approach that I liked. I’m not sure I had ever relaxed so much as during the sessions, and Ana through the pre and post conversations, very gently helps you gain more confidence, and work to progress yourself. Because of Ana I now have taken my Reiki 1 and 2 attunements, and do reiki on myself and my wife. In short, Ana is truly amazing, I have already sent family to go and see her, and I would thoroughly recommend anybody else that is seeking a reiki practitioner, to go and see her.
I literally have not enough words to express how much I have to thank Ana and Reiki for opening my eyes and let me see the real world out there, and what is even more important, the real me. I started my sessions with Ana only a few months ago and from the very first until now that I am taking the level 1 course, every single session has been a new revelation and an improvement in every aspect of my life; I feel a lot more happy and enthusiastic about things, I am more open to things to happen and feel calm and relax after 4 years of suffering anxiety with a severe lack of sleep, being completely lost and lonely. She has something special in her therapies that really helps you to transform, develop yourself and get to the right path. Now I see things that I couldn’t see before, great experience. Cristina, London
As an anxious person there is nothing more vital than finding a connection with your therapist or practitioner that allows you to fully trust and relax. Not only did I find in Reiki a therapy that fully addresses my needs but in Ana a practitioner that reads me. Her sensibility for people's energies is incredible and that makes her sessions so effective. She's able to create an environment where you can truly be yourself. Her energy is positive, strong and uplifting and I leave every session feeling a lot lighter. She has become a synonym of calm and bliss to me. Sarah, London
Ever since Ana has crossed my life and introduced me to Reiki I can strongly state that I never went back, I noticed a massive improvement in my wellbeing and lifestyle, my mood has improved and my energy levels have been boosted up, all of this due to the peaceful and relaxing sensation it transmits. I feel that my body and mind are finding an essential natural balance which is needed to overcome day to day life adversities. Every time Ana performs Reiki on me I feel the serotonin neurotransmitters being released on my brain, for those who don't know serotonin is a neurotransmitter responsible for regulation of mood, appetite and sleep, it is also connected to some cognitive functions such as memory and learning, saying this I feel more composed and sharper and I can say happier after every Reiki session. Marco, London
Ayurvedic Head Massage
There are many benefits to an Indian Head Massage. Amongst others here are a few benefits:
- the touch sustained through massage can boost self-esteem,
- it boosts the immune system by stimulating circulation. In this way the mind (and consequently the body) is calm and energy levels are increased,
- increases the secretion of positive hormones such as serotonin and endorphins, which influence the state of mind, emotions of depression and well-being,
- the body slows down and as a result the mind slows down as well, increasing feelings of peace, calm, tranquility and stability. Problems won't feel as daunting.
- helps with insomnia,
- relieves tiredness and improves the client's alertness, clarity and focus
How does it complement with Reiki?
When doing Reiki I incorporate elements of Indian Head Massage (e.g.: the use of oil and a facial massage at the beginning of the treatment) as it helps the client to relax and quieten the mind more easily and quicker. On the other hand, when doing a massage treatment I also channel life force energy through my hands (Prana in India, Ki in Japan).I do this instinctively while I perform the massage and I also allocate time at the start and end of the session to channel Reiki to the client. For me, the physical and the spiritual go hand in hand and they both share the same ultimate aim of healing the client through channeling life force energy. It is just the way one does this that differs from treatment to treatment, putting more emphasis on the physical (Massage) or on the spiritual (Reiki). For this reason a therapist shall have the two approaches in mind and manage the balance in between according to each clients needs and requests. Different people require different approaches and even the same person might require different approaches on different days.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have worked at St. Josephs Hospice, at the Hale Clinic, ad hoc for many schools around London through the Kids Company and permanently for Evelyn Grace Academy. I now work at the Chelsea Natural Health Clinic, at EvolveWellness Centre and at Natureworks. Nothing in life gives me more fulfilment and happiness than sharing the benefits of Reiki. I am a fully qualified practitioner and teacher having accomplished the Level I, II and Masters Levels of the Usui, Holy Fire system of Natural Healing, under the tutelage of Miguel Chavez. My lineage is very close to Dr. Mikao Usui (the founder of Reiki). There are just five teachers before me, which means that the Reiki energy I channel and teach is very close to the original energy and teachings. Through intensive and regular practice I have developed my own style of Reiki which incorporates medical, emotional, spiritual and psychological clairvoyance. I also incorporate elements of aromatherapy in my Reiki sessions.
I am a certified practitioner of Ayurveda through the College Ayurveda Pura.
