I am a teacher, homeopath and mother and my special areas of interest are fertility, pregnancy, babies and toddlers, childrens’ behaviour, learning difficulties, poor concentration and hyperactivity.
I had first experienced homeopathy as an 8 year old. Before then, I was sick every winter, going from one illness to the next, living on anti-biotics, never quite recovering fully. Then I was taken to see a homeopath and my health improved dramatically. As my immune system became stronger with further treatment, I got fewer illnesses and recovered more quickly each time, until my tendency towards chest infections was removed entirely. Members of my family visited our homeopath for other ailments including hepatitis, dysmenorrhoea, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and IBS, and the improvements were remarkable.
When I had my children, I wanted a safe and gentle system of medicine for them. I was looking for ways to support their immunity and I wanted to avoid medicines that could upset the delicate chemical balance in their bodies.
I found a wonderful local homeopath who treated my kids for everything from nappy rashes and colic, to ear infections, temper tantrums, and warts. I was so impressed by the way it strengthened their immunity that I decided to become a homeopath myself.
I studied for 4 years at the Centre for Homeopathic Education in London, qualifying with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree validated by the University of Middlesex.
I am a registered member of the Society of Homeopaths, one of the main registering bodies in the UK. I am bound by their code of ethics, and I am insured to practice as a homeopath.
Training, qualifications & experience
I graduated in 1990, with a Bachelor of Primary Education from the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. I worked as a teacher before moving to the United Kingdom in 1997. In 2006 I went into homeopathy. I studied for 4 years and qualified with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree.
The majority of my patients come for chronic illnesses, such as arthritis, asthma, eczema, depression, psoriasis, cysts and polyps, anxiety, heavy or painful periods. Most of the women come for womens health issues, such as PMT, help with conception, difficulties during pregnancy, baby blues, menopausal issues, and problems remaining after HRT, childbirth or the Pill. Some come for emotional support during a difficult time, or for anxiety relating to a member of the family. The men generally come for symptoms of stress or problems in the bedroom. Children are brought to me most commonly for chronically enlarged tonsils, eczema, bedwetting, night terrors, poor concentration and behavioural issues.
I have recently opened a drop-in clinic for hay-fever sufferers. This runs every Tuesday morning from 10am to 1pm throughout the hay-fever season.
At the drop-in Hay-fever Clinic I provide shorter appointments for the acute symptoms of hay-fever. These appointments are £15 each, excluding the cost of remedies, which are usually £5 - £10.
For chronic illnesses, it is necessary to apply a holistic approach and look at symptoms throughout the body, even ones that are totally unrelated to the illness you've come about. I look for tendencies and themes running though the whole body in order to select remedies for you. We also discuss your personal characteristics such as how irritable you get under what circumstances, what really worries you - things that tell me about the context of your illness.
It's also important for me to understand your medical history and your family's medical history, so we discuss your past illnesses, operations and significant life events, looking for possible stressors relating to your illness.
With all this to discuss, your first appointment is usually an hour, and I charge £60, including the cost of your remedies.
Follow-up appointments are usually monthly, they last 30 - 40 mins and they cost £45 including remedies.
Homeopathy is a therapy where you will be listened to and respected. It's a great option when the medical world has no solution for you, or for when you don't feel they're really getting to the bottom of the problem. It's also worth considering if you want to avoid the side-effects of strong medications, or you need help coping with these side-effects.
