About me

Alex Turner Lic Ac, BSc (Hons), MRSS(T) has been practicing complimentary health since 1990. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Acupuncture from the University of Kingston (College of Integrated Chinese Medicine) and a Diploma in Shiatsu (a form of Japanese bodywork/acupressure massage) from The Devon School of Shiatsu.

His style of acupuncture integrates Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Five Element acupuncture. He also uses techniques such as moxibustion, cupping, guasha and acupressure.

Alex is also a Shiatsu Practitioner and registered teacher with the Shiatsu Society UK. He was Course Director and tutor at The Devon School of Shiatsu for many years before moving to Bristol.

He is part of The Core Therapy Team at the Penny Brohn Cancer Care Center where he practices acupuncture, shiatsu, teaches Qigong classes, relaxation techniques and also facilitates residential courses on the ‘Whole Person Approach’ to health and well being.

The Whole Person Approach is at the heart of Alex’s acupuncture and shiatsu practice and he aims to unlock the underlying patterns that cause symptoms to arise. As a result, clients often report that in addition to addressing their main complaint they feel increased energy levels and a sense of feeling better in themselves.

In acupuncture I use high quality, very fine, single use, stainless steel needles. Acupuncture points are stimulated to improve and regulate the body’s healing response. Evidenced based research has shown that acupuncture is beneficial for a wide variety of conditions.
Shiatsu works in a very similiar way but pressure on points and meridians is used through touch.Sometimes other techniques are used such as gentle stretches.

Your first session of acupuncture is a 1.5 hr consultation & treatment followed by series of 1hr treatments. Shiatsu sessions are 1 hr. Although results are often felt after the first treatment, a course of 6-10 weekly treatments is generally recommended for lasting improvements plus regular tops to keep you feeling your best through the year . Acupuncture and Shiatsu can safely be used alongside conventional medicine.
